(Okay so I am one of those people who listens to hardcore, scary music and looks up cute pictures and where if I see a cute picture I have to share it. So that is why there is a cute caterpillar above. Enjoy!)
Raven woke up the next day and got ready for school. She went the whole day of school bored. Even met Jaxon at her locker and he walked her to all of her classes.
After school she was walking and she saw Riley walking. She ran to catch up to him and she said "Hey! You did awesome!"
He snorted.
"Riley? Why aren't you talking?"
Still, he said nothing.
"Riley! Answer me! Are you mad at me?"
He turned around and said "No! What do you think? I got ditched last night for Jaxon, out of all people! Of course I'm gonna be angry!"
"Riley... I'm so sorry..." She said. She had completely forgotten about meeting up with him.
"Yeah, whatever, it's fine. I'm fine. I can see that you're clearly happy with him and how he works." Riley turned and kept walking.
Raven stood there, her heart dropped to her toes. She did ditch her best friend...
"Riley! Wait!" She jogged beside him.
"Raven, stop." He sternly said.
"You're shaking! Are you okay?" She stepped in front of him. He stopped and looked at her. She grabbed his hand, and he didn't object to it. She looked at his knuckles and saw they were scabbed over and bruised. Under his eyes were dark and heavy. "What happened?"
"Ah, it's from the game. I was tackled a few times." He lied. He had shifted down in the basement last night. He lashed out at brick walls instead of animals or even humans.
As usual, she put a hand over his injured hand and murmured "Be careful. Please?"
"I will. I promise." He said. For a moment, anger was gone.
"I am so sorry I didn't meet up with you after your game. I really am sorry." She looked at Riley as they continued walking.
"Raven, I wish you could understand what I am saying... If only I can tell you... Jaxon is something that people fear if they find out."
Raven gve him a look but when along with it, for fear of making him even more angry that she already had done.
They parted ways and before she went inside her house she hugged Riley. "You did just as good during the game... If not better." He only smiled before she hopped up her porch steps and waved, going inside. Raven had a missed call from Jaxon.
Calling him back, he picked up at the second ring. "Hey Raven!"
"Hey! What's up?"
"I have a question for you." He said in a soft voice.
"And I may have an answer. Fire away." She smiled.
"So tonight, I'm not doing anything. But I was hoping you'd say yes if I asked you out to the movies."
"Well..." She said. "I am doing absolutely nothing tonight until now." She paced around.
"Is that a yes?"
"It's a yes." She giggled. "What movie?"
"Well, all that's playing are scary movies if you don't mind."
"Ah, that's cool! I love scary movies!"
"Okay! So around seven I'll come get you?"
"Yeah, that sounds good."
"Okay. I will see you later."
"See you!" They hung up.
Raven was all ready, sitting on the front porch. She had her phone, her usual pocket knife and her wallet. Jaxon pulled up in a bright red dodge challenger. He grinned and put the car in park. Her got out of the car and greeted her by kissing her on the cheek. He walked her to the passenger side and opened her door for her.
She said "Thank you." As He closed the car door. He got in, they both buckled in and they were off. He held his hand out to her, and she took it. They held hands for the first time. Raven felt her cheeks warm up.
"So, what movie do you want to see?" He asked.
"What's the goriest one?" She asked, looking at him.
"You like Gore? I never pegged you as a girl that likes gory things. Anyways, I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre sounds the goriest, or The Collection."
"I think... We should see The Collection." She said. He nodded in agreement. They were at the local movie theatre and they had gotten tickets and snacks and went inside the theatre. They sat closest to the screen. The whole movie was full of surprises. Jaxon even jumped a few times. Raven only giggle at him. They slid their fingers together, palms touching and fingers intertwined.
Jaxon leaned over and kissed her head. He had a small crush on her, but he wanted to get to Riley. Raven watched the movie in awe as more blood kept pooling around the entire movie. She said "This... Is... Awesome!"
He chuckled. Raven and Jaxon were so interested in the movie, that they even watched the credits roll and the lights began to turn on. They stood and stretched, leaving the movies.
They were in his car when he said "I don't want this night to end."
"I know, me too." She said in a sort of dreamy voice. Honestly Raven had fell head over heels in love with Jaxon. Granted, they only knew each other for a month or so.
"I have a game tomorrow and I can't play well if I stay up until the morning hours, or I would totally take you over to my house or even see another movie." He said.
"Hey, that's alright. We have all next week too. And after that." She paused. "When and where is your game?"
"It's at six o'clock and it's away. I can swing by and pick you up if you can go?" He offered.
"I'll go! Yeah! I'll give you gas money because I bet it's a far away game." She said. She always gave gas money. "Or I could follow you there with my car."
"Nah, I'd much rather have you with me. And I am not taking your money. It's okay! My treat." He winked. Out of all honesty, Jaxon just didn't want Riley to ride with her because he knew she'd offer him a ride.
Raven smiled and said "I'll slip you a twenty when you're not looking. I will pay for gas. It's not a big deal to me. You're toting me around, it's the least I can do." She gave him a sympathetic look when they were at a red light.
"Raven. No. Look, you're awesome to be around and that's enough of a reason for you not to pay."
She smiled and shook her head. Raven said "Green light. Go." Giggling, she grabbed his hand in to hers.
Minutes later they were already at her house. They sat in his car and talked, laughed, and smiled for a while. She looked at the time. It was ten at night. "Shoot! I gotta go! Thank you so, so much Jaxon! I will see you tomorrow!" She leaned over, hugged him and pecked him on the cheek before leaving. He smiled and watched as she walked inside of her house.
She saw her mom sitting on the counter. "Who's that?"
"Jaxon. He's a good friend of mine." Raven felt her cheeks get hot.
"You kiss your good friends in their car?" Her mother questioned. "Why didn't you tell me where you were?"
"Ugh... Crap... I really forgot. I made it home in one piece! He's a good guy mom. He plays football."
"I don't care what he does. Riley and I were looking all over for you! He was so worried Raven. Make sure you find him right away and let him know you didn't get home until late. He was hoping you'd hang out with him."
Raven's heart felt tight in her chest. She nodded and asked "My punishment?"
"It's a warning."
"Yes ma'am." She didn't dare to argue with her mother. "Is it okay if I ride with Jaxon to his and Riley's game?"
"Yes since you asked. You be careful and keep Riley safe. And cheer him on! He's a good kid, Raven." Her mom pressed.
"I know he is... I have known him since kindergarten..." Raven chewed her bottom lip.
"Alright. Good night kiddo. I love you."
"I love you too momma." She hugged her mom before going upstairs to her room. Raven looked at her phone and saw a text from Riley.
Don't bother telling me. I already know. I figured you would be with him.
Raven fell on her bed and sighed. Her phone buzzed again.
Oh and thank you for giving me a mild heart attack. See you around. Goodnight.
Raven plugged her phone in and turned on some quiet music. She fell asleep and before she knew it she was up and ready for school.
