"So what's his name?" I asked.
"Who?" Bridget asked me.
"Your brother. What's his name?" I asked again.
"Jace."
"Jace what, Barton?" I asked.
"I doubt he took dad's name. He probably took his mum's," she answered.
"Do you know what he looks like?"
"I just found out about him like 10 minutes ago," she said.
I didn't know what to say to that. I looked over at the chair I assume she was sitting in earlier and saw a letter of some sort on her book.
"What's that?" I asked pointing over there.
"I'm not sure," she said getting up to get it. When she did, she gasped and dropped the paper.
"What? What is it?" I asked.
She didn't answer. She just picked up the paper and came back to the bed. I took it from her because she looked like she was going to say something, but didn't know how to say it. It was a letter, from her father.
"'Dear Bridget,'" I started, reading it aloud, "'I know that this news of Jace may come as a shock, but I had to tell you before I left. Like I told you, I left some money in your savings account. There's about 4,000 pounds in there. I know that you're going to want to find Jace, and I won't stop you, although your mother might. In this letter, I included a picture of him, his last name, and the city he lives in. If you ask your mother, she might help you, but like I said, I'm not sure she will.
"'I know what you must think of me, and it's probably true. But I hope you will find your brother and create a bond with him. With all my love, Dad.'"
I looked over to her and she was looking at the picture. On the back it said "Jace Romanova, age 16, Skywater."
"Where's Skywater?" I asked taking the picture from her. I nearly dropped it because this guy looked nothing like Bridget's dad, or even her for that matter. This guy had a chiseled jaw, jet black hair, perfect smile, fierce green eyes, and he was just handsome (yes, I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to say that).
"I have no idea where Skywater is," she said.
"He looks nothing like your dad," I said giving the picture back to her.
"He doesn't look like me either," she said, "He must look like his mother. I wonder if he has any other siblings."
I was going to say something back, but her phone rang. She got up off the bed and walked over to her bag to get it out.
"Hello?"
Pause.
"Oh sorry, mum. I'm sorry. I totally forgot. I'll be home soon," she said.
