"Mom, I'm really sorry," I said as I slipped my shoes off by the front door. "I didn't know I'd get arrested."
"Okay, but what exactly did you do?" She asked with disappointment in her voice. Letting my mom down is truthfully one of the worst things I could do, in my opinion.
"I was a tagger," I said quietly as I began to pick at my chipped nail polish to avoid eye contact.
"A tagger? What's a tagger? Is this a joke?" She asked while crossing her arms and glaring at me.
"Graffiti and vandalism."
"Graffiti and vandalism?!" She screamed while leaning in closer and widening her eye.
"Yes," I whispered while flinching at the tone of her voice.
She let out a breath which eased into an aggregated groan. My mom then sat on the couch and began pulling at strands of her hair and whispering quietly under her breath to calm herself. Most would think she looks like a mental patient by the way her eyes are bulging large and her jaw is clenched tight, but I can't blame her. All my mom ever wanted was for me to be perfect- yes it's a lot of pressure, but there's also no way around it.
"You're grounded," she finally said, combing her fingers through her hair to display the array of veins in her temples. They all looked like they were on the verge of exploding. I can usually rate my mothers anger by the color of her face, the size of her veins, and the pacing of her breathing, and by the signs she's showing, she's trying really hard to stop herself from kicking me out of the house.
"Mom, I'm sorry. I just-"
"Just wanted what Parker? To embarrass me like this? Do you know how many people are going to be stopping me and asking me about your prison sentence?"
"Mom, it was one night. And why do you care what people think?"
"Why do you care Parker? Because you seemed to care enough if it landed you in jail!"
She had a point, I shouldn't be the one asking her why she cares what others think. When it all comes down to it, I did only do this to become popular.
"I'm sorry. I was wrong. I shouldn't have done it. I'll never do anything like that again," I said quietly as tears filled my eyes.
"I'm sorry too Parker. It's just...I want you to be as amazing as I know you are. Vandalism isn't you."
"I know."
"Good. Now, go to your room for a bit. I need to calm down. I love you," she said before getting up and leaving the room.
"Love you too mom," I yelled back.
When I got to my room I laid on my bed and stared at the different pictures and awards around my room. My mom was right, being bad diffidently isn't me, no matter how much I want to fight her on it. My life in more of getting straight A's and helping out around the community. Basically, a very good student and samaritan.
I looked down at my phone which I hadn't checked in hours, and realized that I had gotten a text from Avery. Right now, she's the last person who's name I expected to see on my screen.
Avery: Parker, call me ASAP. I have news :)
