The Vampire Diaries; after

I'm ready

I open the large storage unit door and walk to Elenas coffin. Taking a deep breath I place my hand on it and close my eyes taking a minute to realize that the love of my life will wake up and she will be in my arms again.
I open the coffin with Stefan by my side and reveal her body. She's in the same blue dress that she was in 3 years ago. I slide my arms underneath her back and move right hand to support her knees.
"You got her?" Stefan asked me following me out.
"Yeah brother I'm good." I said and placed Elena softly in the back seat. I wanted to stay back there with her to watch her. To admire her beauty that I haven't been able to see for years.
"I'm gonna stay back here with her." I said to Stefan placing Elena head on my lap.
"Alright." Stefan said looking back.

"How is she?" Stefan asked walking into the house to find Enzo watching Bonnie on the couch. She was currently 'dead' and he was waiting for her to wake up and transition into a vampire. I gripped Elenas body and placed her on my bed. I sayed up there with her for hours. If anyone thinks I'm leaving her side they would have to be insane.
"Still dead....ish." Enzo smirked grabbing Bonnie's hand.
Stefan headed up stairs into my room. He sat down beside me and we watched Elena.
"I....I...uh..I think I saw her hand twitch." Stefan said nervously.
"Your being serious?" I asked him.
"Damon yes...yes I'm serious look!" Stefan said pointing to elena.
"Elena...I'm right here baby. Listen to my voice. I've been waiting for you to come back to me baby....the wait is over." I said peaceful grabbing her hand. Her legs twitched and so did her eyes.
They opened.
"Damon?" Elena mumbled.
"Yeah......yeah it's me baby....welcome home." I said trying to keep my tears in.
Elena sprung up and threw her arms around me. I've been waiting for this comfort for a long time. The hole in my heart was filled.
She squeezed me tight and I kissed every square inch of her face.
"I love you so much." She said crying.
"I love you too." I said holding tight. This time I will never.....ever let her go or let anything ever happen to her.
"Stefan!" Elena said and hugged him.
"We've missed you around here you know that?" He said and kissed her head.
"Wait.....if I'm awake.....Bonnie's.....dead?" She said and pulled away from Stefan.
"Well...uh....not exactly." I said adjusting my position on the bed.
"She's.......transitioning." Stefan said.
"This better have been her choice because if I hear that you guys forced your blood and killed her....." Elena said worried.
"Killed who? Me?" Bonnie said waking through the door. Elenas eyes widened and both girls eyes filled with tears.
"Bonnie?"
"Elena." Bonnie said running up to her and giving her the biggest hug. The girls squeezed each other tight.
"Please tell me your okay." Elena said.
"Elena trust me....I want this.....we wanted this." Bonnie said confusing Elena.
"We?"
"Yes love we." Enzo said waking into Damons room.
"Yeah....you've got a lot of catching up to do." I said kissing Elenas cheek.
"Okay guys I'll come down stairs in a bit I kinda just wanna catch up with Damon up here." She said smiling. Obviously I was left smirking.
"Yeah sure....see you soon, okay Bon let's go get you some blood." Stefan said.
"Wait! Where's Caroline?" Elena asked before everyone left the room.
"She's coming she was on her way back from New Orleans." I told her rubbing her back.
After everyone left she closed my bedroom door.
She ran up to me and wrapped her legs around my waist. I kissed her and god it felt so good.....to be quite honest I thought it would be 60 years until I would see my baby again.
"I can't believe you back.....back with me." I said and she squeezed me. I spun her around and then we layed in bed.
"You should know something.." I said holding her hand.
"Damon, I told you to live your life it's okay." Elena said thinking I cheated on her.
"No it's not like that even though you allowed me it's just been me, myself and I." I said and she giggled.
"I......left everyone and desecrated myself in a coffin beside yours. So that when you woke up we would be together." She let go of my hand and sat up.
"You left everyone to desecate yourself for me?" She said raising her voice a bit.
"Elena I had too, I didn't know how to survive without you. I couldn't live. I couldn't do anything but look at Bonnie and picture her dying." I said adjusting a pillow behind my back.
"I....uh....I need some air." She said and walked out of the room.
-no ones Pov-
Elena walks down the stairs into the main living room. She is speech less. She holds her hand over her mouth "CARE!" She runs to Caroline and throws her arms over her.
"I've missed you 'Lena." Caroline said squeezing her.
Damon walks down the stairs and sees Elena happy. That's all he ever wants. For her to be happy.
Damon sat down on the couch next to Stefan while Bonnie and Enzo sat together on the other. Caroline and Elena were standing and hugging each other when....."Elena!" Jeremy yelled.
"JER!" Elena ran up to him and hugged him followed by Tyler and Matt.
"Party without me?" Katherine said walking through the door. "Welcome back princess." Katherine said cracking a half smirk.
"I can't say I missed you."
"At least we have something in common.....well aside from the fact that your my doppelgänger." Katherine laughed and gave Elena an awkward hug.
Katherine went to sit beside Stefan which left a space between Damon and the arm of the couch which was clearly open for Elena.

Damons Pov
I was seated in between Stefan and an open space beside me. I knew she wanted to sit beside me but I think she was still trying to figure out how she feels about what I did. And I can't blame her because well she's Elena Gilbert.
"So you two are a thing I hear?" Elena asked Bonnie.
"Yes we are." Enzo said and kissed Bonnie's cheek.
"Why don't you sit next to Damon?" Caroline said confused.
Elena stared at her un sure of what to say leaving everyone confused. Before I knew it Elena vamp sped out of the room and out into the stairs outside.
"I......uh..." I mumbled and sped after her and found her with her head in her hands seated.
"So you decided to sit here and not with me.....fair enough." I smirked and I knew she was smiling even though her face was covered by her hands.
"Please let me see your beautiful face that's all I've wanted to see for 3 years....please." I begged. After a few seconds she tilted her head up and looked at me resting it on her crossed arms over her knees.
"Happy?" She asked.
"God I missed seeing your beautiful face." I said staring at her.
"Damon....." She shook her head. "You can't pretend that you didn't leave everyone when they needed you the most. And you were selfish."
"And madly in love with you." I said adding on to her. She looked into my eyes and stared at me shaking her head. She looked down at her engagement ring and then smiled. Before I knew it she crashed her lips on to mine.
"I love you." She said breaking the kiss and putting our fore heads together.
"I can't wait to marry you." I said and using my speed and picked her up bridal style and walked her back to the living room.
"Damon!" She laughed.
