Some how some way

Ian's Pov
I wake up to the sight of the smallest big of sun shinning through the window that hits Elenas beautiful features highlighting them. After slowly slipping out of bed I pulled the covers over her stopping at her shoulders, not that she would be cold....since well.....vampires don't get cold, but I couldn't leave the bed a mess and plus she looked really cute all snuggled up.
I open my phone to 10 text notifications from a group chat with me, Elena, Caroline and Stefan.

Caroline: "I can't wait for you guys to come back....I'm making us all dinner that night!"

Stefan: "Care....do you really think Damon trusts your cooking. You do have a strong somewhat hatred for the guy, what if you slip some vervain in his food."

Caroline: "Oh Stefan...it will be fine, I'm sure they will love my food."

I laugh while I read the texts.

Me: "I'd eat with you guys when we come back in two weeks but you know I've probably already eaten....I wouldn't call it food though ;)"

About 5 minutes later.
Caroline: "TMI DAMON TMI!"

Stefan: "note to self....never add Damon in a group chat....or any texting for that matter."

I check my phone once again before I come back inside from the balcony.

Elena: "right.....i think it should be fun, Damon can suck it up for one night."

Caroline: "I see what you did there, 'suck it up' ha ha very funny."

I smirk reading the texts and turn my back to see a very awake Elena holding her phone on the bed.

"You dirty man." she says holding up her phone to my texts on the group chat. 

"At least I wasn't lying....we both know I can't stand blondies cooking Mrs.Salvatore." I said walking closer to her now sitting up on the bed with her legs crossed.

"Damon...." She smiled. "Let her treat us for just one night...I mean knowing Caroline she will probably  invite all of our friends, and you'll have Rick, thats if he's not on baby duty." She smirked and started changing into a pair of jeans and a tee shirt since it was surprisingly cold and cloudy out today in Rome.

"I know bu-" I said and was interrupted

"Please." she said with puppy dog eyes that i can't resist.

"Fine...just this once though."

"Yes!" She said and hugged me.

I smiled big and pulled us apart looking into her eyes.

"I believe you owe me something you said in those text messages." Elena smirked.

"Gladly." I said and quickly threw her over my shoulders

"Damon the bed is the other way!" She laughed.

"I know but I want to bring you somewhere else first." I said and walked out of our little apartment.

"Can I get down now?" She laughs as I walk down the street with her over my shoulder.

"Ugh....fine.....it was kinda nice gripping your ass for a while." I said smirking.

"Well...now you can watch it." She said and walked in front of me.

"It looks like it's going to rain so if your leading the way I think there's a little store to the right so we can buy an umbrella."

"Okay well Mr.Salvatore lets turn left!"

"No Elena I said ri-"

"I know you did....but I'm leading the way remember." She said and turned back to look at me.

"So if your leading the way I think you should know that if you turn left there's a strip club." I smirked.

"Your kidding."she said stopping in her tacks.

"Yeah I'm just messing with you but there is a bar and we might need to stop."

She continued walking without hesitation. That's my girl.

"It's raining....we need to head home and guess what genius we don't have an  umbrella." I smirked at her being sarcastic.

"I never thought Damon Salvatore the mean vampire would let rain hurt him."

"Oh yeah.... okay." I said and grabbed her hand bringing us outside of the bar and into the rain.

"We're vampires Damon, it's not like we're gonna get sick....I'm fine. I could stay in the rain all day."

"Perfect."

"What do you me-
I grabbed her and threw her over my shoulders again.
"DAMON! NOT AGAIN!" She squirmed and laughed.  I vampire speed to where I wanted to take her.

"Here....this is where I wanted to take you." I said and put her down for us to admire the Trevi Fountain and have it all to ourselves since everyone was indoors because of the rain.

"It's....beautiful."

"The first time I came here was in 1985.....the year that I thought I was doomed to love. I remember trying to charm girls with my good looks but apparently I was a 'dirty bastard' and some other things." I smirked. "You know I was always thinking about Katherine and how I would never fall in love again. But an older woman walked up to me while I was sitting on a bench right about here." I said pointing to an open spot. "I felt like we have known each other for a long time. She told me that I would love again and that I should have hope that someone just as special as her would come around and except me for who I was...." I said thinking of that flashback.

"So this....this is the spot where I realized that I knew I would still obsesses over a girl I could never have but I knew that I could have hope for a girl that would want me for who I was...and some way some how it brought me to you" I said and put my arm around her trying to ignore the rain.

"Did you find that girl?" She smiled looking into my eyes.

I looked at her for about 5 seconds.
"I have her and all I need right here." I said and turned her around to kiss her.

"Your kidding." I said and let go of Elena gently.

"I knew you'd come back." The older woman said.

"How is this possible.....how am I seeing you?"

"Damon who is this?" Elena asked but I ignored her.

"I'm a vampire....and honey I knew you were one too. I've been coming here everyday since I was turned....I know I'm an old bag but it makes me happy. Don't you think that I forgot about talking to you." She smiled.

I stood there in shock.

"I could hear the way your heart raced when you saw someone's neck. And the way your eyes widdened when the young girl scraped her knee after she fell."

"I just...I can't believe I'm seeing you again....I was just telling the story of how we talked."

"I told you to have hope."

"And look at what hope brought me too." I said and put my arms around Elena.

"Thank you." Elena said and smiled at the lady.

"Honey what are you thanking me for."

"For bringing him to me....some way....some how." I smirked using the line that Damon did.
