The moment I arrived at the school grounds, I thought I might never be able to hear again after this night. From the main gate of the school – which is decorated with high metal railings in colors, black and gold, and stone pillars where the school logo is engraved in every single one of them – you can already hear the faint blasting music emitting from the speakers from the schools ground, where the stage is assembled, that is located in the very middle and center of the campus.
Being in the dormitory building that is built on the other side of the street across the campus, has its perks especially in occasions like this. With the loud thumping of gleeful music, after getting used to it, and with Marlene by my side, I think I can say that I will fully enjoy this night. I have convinced myself to forget about overanalyzing the things that I cannot change and the people who I cannot persuade. Harry didn't come back after he left the dormitory nor left a message or anything, which is highly unusual for him these past few days or weeks. He has been more thoughtful and softhearted. But then again, I reminded myself that Harry and I are in good terms and I shouldn't let it be jeopardized by my instinct to conclude easily.
You're not the only person Harry cares about.
Don't overthink.
"I'm kinda excited tonight." Marlene shouted, loud enough for me to hear through the dominating music flowing in the atmosphere. We are walking among the other students who are also coming to watch tonight and as we get closer, the music starts to get louder and wilder.
With the clothes that we bought earlier today, my confidence to attend this event boosted enough for me to actually enjoy and be carefree for one night. Also, this is the last day before break starts. The only downside of my outfit is, the usual cool night breeze is colder than before.
"Yeah, me too. But I forgot to bring a jacket." I said.
"You won't be needing a jacket when the place is already packed. You'll get sweaty because of partying." Marlene assured as we finally reached the place where all the students are congregated.
I scanned the place with my eyes, even if the flickering lights blinded my eyes for a minute or so, before my eyes have adjusted to the multi colored lights swirling all around the place. Some booths are still operating, especially the assorted food stalls and the university souvenir stores. They are strategically placed side by side, making a huge square shape that is occupying almost the whole space, to serve as the barrier for tonight. In the far opposite side of the entrance, the stage is built massively onto the grass covered grounds. From the current amount of the students inside the place, Marlene's recent statement has been proven.
Some students are wearing skirts or shorts, for girls, and cargo pants or skin-tight jeans for boys. Seeing the place covered with lights that is hung like buntings and banners makes me wonder if Christmas break is coming. The outfits and the atmosphere contradicts it. But some stalls are selling early Christmas gifts or treats.
"Chastity!" A voice shouted above all the commotion, causing me to looks sideways for the source. In my right, I saw Trevor coming our way wearing a plain dark green shirt and jeans with his usual Vans. The only thing that is cheerful-looking on him is his bright and wide smile as he comes closer to us. The thought that Trevor still thinks that the ticket I used is his brings another wave of guilt within me, though not as big as the one I felt during the basketball game. I can't wait for this guilt to flee away once the events are done.
