A/N: This is just going to be a short little exerpt from my main Marvel story. It hasn't happened yet, but I've been planning ahead. It's from The Age of Ultron movie, personally my favorite movie about the Avengers, other than Civil War of course. So, without further ado, the one-shot. I hope you all enjoy
______________
The sky was heavy with stars despite the bright lights illuminating the Avengers tower in New York, the building bustled equally with jovial activity- a party was taking place. People moved about seeming everywhere, the building filled with old war veterans and close friends alike. It was unsurprisingly lively, Tony Stark always knew how to throw a good party.
I sighed heavily while leaning against the cool metal railing, leaning against it and looking down to the street below. Tony decided to throw this party as a sort of celebration for our 'victory'- if it could even be called that. We had just gotten Loki's scepter back and it was in safe hands now, or I hoped so anyway. It seemed like everyone and their brother were after this thing almost constantly, it was starting to become too much to handle.
The streets below were just as crowded as I expected them to be, the cold of night not seeming to affect how alive the city was. A shiver racks my body, it then struck me just how cold I was myself. I was dressed in a sleeveless white shirt, a light teal skirt, brown boots, and I wore a star and moon necklace for an added touch. It probably wasn't my best move to come out to the balcony, but I couldn't help it. The noise inside was muffled slightly by the closed glass door behind me, it was still audible, however.
I ran my hands over my arms, I didn't want to go back inside just yet. Sure, it was fun hanging out with everyone and having a drink. But something felt off, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. My body winces involuntarily as a piece of warm fabric is draped over my shoulders. Looking up, I saw Steve at my side now with a small smile on his lips. He pulls his brown jacket more secure over me while saying,
"What are you doing out here? It's too cold, come on back inside."
I couldn't help but smile myself, looking back over the bustling city. A car alarm could be heard going off in the distance, but neither of us paid it any mind.
"Sorry, I just needed some air," I reply quietly, my voice hardly above a whisper,
"To clear my head of a few things. I didn't mean to make you worry."
Steve drapes one of his strong arms over my shoulder with an easy sigh, pulling me against his side. He felt tense against me, his voice was in a more serious tone when he spoke this time,
"I know what you mean, especially after what's happened recently. I made a promise to you, and I intend to keep it."
Neither of us say anything else for a few moments, and it was actually kind of nice. The noise of the party became louder as the door was opened and Tony stuck his head out while suggesting in a joking tone,
"Why don't you two seniors come back inside? The cold must be doing a number on you by now."
I shook my head with a small laugh, he really couldn't help with the jokes, could he? Steve lets his arm fall from my shoulders as Tony went back to the party, I started for the door, but stop as Steve suddenly says,
"He's out there, Sky, we both know it. And he's coming home."
I turned around to look at my friend, his blue eyes were full of determination and yet...sadness. It made my heart hurt, I closed the space between us and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. He returns the embrace and lowers his head to let his face rest against the crook of my neck, his breath was warm against my skin. I let the fingers of my left hand stroke over his dirty blonde hair at the back of his head, my voice quiet once more,
"I know."
