When Benjamin awoke, the first thing he noticed was the warmth that surrounded him.He felt completely warm, and surprisingly safe. He wiggled around trying to figure out where he was, and why he was so warm. As he moved he felt the wariness shift around him, and he recognized that someone had their arms around him.
The arms let go of him, and he sat up. The figure beside him sat up too, and Benjamin sat shocked for a second at who it was.
It was Alexander.
Alexander had been cuddling him. And he actually looked concerned for him.
"Alex, what are you- what did you- why?" Benjamin asked.
"I was worried about you. You got really cold, and I felt bad. I'm sorry for what I did, I didn't mean to make you pass out." Alexander explained.
Benjamin looked at the pure sorrow on Alexander's face. This was the first sentence Alexander had said to him without a helping of sarcasm along with it. He looked really worried for Benjamin, but Benjamin couldn't quite place why. A chill suddenly flew through the cave entrance, making them both shiver.
Benjamin nodded. "Can you hold me again? It's really cold."
Alexander smiled, and wrapped his arms around Benjamin and laid back down on the cold cave floor. Benjamin felt safe. They both laid there, bundled in each other's arms, until the sun set and they both fell into a deep slumber.
* * *
When the two awoke the sun was high in the sky and spilling into the cave entrance, filling every corner with its magnificent light.
Benjamin woke up first, but he didn't want to leave the embrace of his new found love, even though he wasn't sure if Alexander actually felt that way about him. Alexander woke up soon after though, and their sweet embrace was left as a memory on the cave floor.
Today they planned to find at least one of the items, and they needed to get a move on. Three moons had already passed, and the days seemed to be getting shorter.
"It should be easy to find the leaves..." Benjamin said before trailing off.
"Should be." Alexander replied, his old self back at it again.
Benjamin laughed, before a hand came out in front of him and stopped him from moving any further forward.
Alexander suddenly pointed, one hand still on blocking Benjamin's path.
"Does that tree look old enough? Or maybe we should try that one over there. She didn't say how old the tree had to be did she?" Alexander rambled.
Benjamin wasn't paying attention though, all he could focus on was the warm hand that was placed upon his chest.
Alexander's hand was really warm, and it felt so strong against his chest. When Alexander moved his hand Benjamin found himself letting out an involuntary whimper, wanting that strong warmth back.
Alexander didn't notice though, and kept on looking for that perfect tree. Finally he found one, and by the time he had found one Benjamin had finally caught his breath. But it was soon taken away again by the sight of the tree Alexander decided on.
