There she sat, on a bench, looking down at her book in her lap. Her ears were plugged with headphones, and every now and then she'd pull out an I-Pod from her pocket to change songs.
I smiled. Ryan stood next to me, blabbing about something that happened last weekend. I hadn't realized he was finish talking until I felt a hand smack my back, tipping me forward. I lost my balance, but caught someone's arm.
Ryan busted out laughing as I apologized to the stranger I fell on. I shot Ryan a glare.
"What was that for?" I asked.
"Go talk to her." Ryan said.
I gave him a confused look. "The lady I ran into?" I asked, looking at the lady as she walked down the sidewalk.
"No." Ryan said, smacking me. "Her!" he pointed to the girl I'd been looking at. I stood upstraight, and nodded.
"I think I will." I said, confident. Ryan shoved me forward, and I shot him another glare as I approached the girl sitting on the bench.
"Hey." I greeted. She didn't hear me because of her music. I waved a hand infront of her book, and she looked up.
"Hey." I repeated. She took out a headphone, and gave me a small smile.
"Hello." she greeted.
"I'm Justin." I said, sticking my hand out towards her. She didn't take it, so I let my hand fall to my side.
"I know." she said. "We've been in the same first period for the past three years." I suddenly felt like a retard.
"Oh." I said. She stood, gathering her things.
"But I'm Carter." she greeted, and stuck her hand out. "Since we've never met before." I chuckled, and took her hand in mine. She gave it a small shake, and released.
"See you around." she said, and walked down the sidewalk to the parking lot. I stood there, and frowned. I spun around, and yelled:
"See you in first period!" Carter looked over her shoulder, and I heard her giggle. I walked back over to where Ryan sat.
"How'd it go?" Ryan asked. " You get any digits?" I smacked his arm.
"No." I said. "Appearantly she's in my first period." Ryan busted out laughing.
"You are so stupid." he said, and I rolled my eyes, standing.
"I'd better be going," I said. "Mom's probably making dinner."
Ryan nodded. "I'll see you in first block!" he yelled, mimicking me. I rolled my eyes, and chuckled lightly.
"Shut up."
The next day at school, I walked into class and saw Carter sitting in her desk, scribbling down the morning work into her school notebook. I went to my assigned seat, which was next to Carter.
'How come I'm just now noticing her?' I thought as I took a seat. "Hey Carter." I greeted. She peeked her head up, and gave me a small smile.
"morning Justin." she said, and went back to working.
"How did you sleep?" I asked, attempting to start a conversation. Alls it gave me was a weird look from Carter. "Nevermind." I muttered and began my work.

Once class was out, I followed Carter to her locker, which was a few lockers down from mine. She dialed her numbers, and I leaned against the locker next to hers.
