Theo's P.O.V
"Get your stuff. They're here, you need to go." Kyle's words caused a mad scramble in the hallway as we all ran to grab our stuff. We wasted no time, all of us running down the stairs barefoot, Ryder in nothing but his underwear.
We charged towards the cars. "Here." Kyle launching the keys into the air. I unlocked the car and Ryder and I scrambled inside, shoving out bags in the back seat. Ahead of us, 2 of Kyle's men were opening up the back exit. I did up my seat belt, turned the key in the ignition and started the engine. "Go," Kyle shouted, as, behind us, a squad of police officers, all with raised guns.
I floored it and the car shot out of the still rising garage doors. We pelted down the road, no sounds of the police in pursuit behind us. Adrenaline was flooding through my veins, blood pounding in my ears. Everything blurred past us in a sea of greens and browns. I began to slow down after about an hour of driving, the back roads free of traffic allowing me to drive way too quickly. Still, after all this time there was no sign of the police, which was both odd, and worrying.
Beside me, Ryder shivered, "Here, take this." I said handing him a hoodie from the back seat. I took my eyes off the road to retrieve it, and just as I handed it to him Ryder shouted.
"THEO!" I smashed my foot down, just as something darted out in front of us. The abrupt stop caused Me and Ryder to jolt forwards. I heard a soft bum, which caused Ryder to frantically grapple at his seat belt, climbing out of the car. Ryder's torso disappeared as he bent down in front of the hood of the car, reappearing with a slightly dazed-looking dog by his side. He was clutching it by the scruff of the neck. "You hit a dog."
"Yes, I can see that Sherlock." I snarked, The massive wolf-like dog barked at me, and Ryder pulled forwards his seat allowing the dog to climb in the back. "Ryder?"
"Yes?"
"What are you doing, we can't keep a dog. We don't have the time of money." I said as Ryder joined the dog in the back.
"Well then, shut up and drive. We can get back to the cave grab the rest of our stuff then get out of this state." The massive dog behind me barked, flashing his huge teeth.
"Are you sure that this isn't a wolf," I asked easing my foot back down onto the gas, driving slower than before.
"We don't get wolves around here, and 'That Thing' has a name." I rolled my eyes
"You've named it already?" I chuckled.
"Tank, and yes he's fine after you ran him over, thanks for asking." Ryder snapped. I could hear the sound of Tank licking Ryder's face, as I hooked my iPod up to the speakers. I drowned out the sound of the world with Fall Out Boy blurting from the speakers.
Time passed slowly, nothing exciting to see on the winding drive. The change of pace brought by pulling onto the highway could not have come sooner. I revved the car's engine drawing the eyes of other drivers. I yawned widely as the fast pace slowed down to a crawl. I envied Ryder who lay asleep in the back seat, Tank on top of him.
The slow pace and long stretch of straight road were easy to navigate, and with no sign of the cops, my nerves were on the down low. I turned up my music and sang along to 'Fallout' by Marianas Trench at the top of my lungs. IT surprised me that my bad singing or nightmare hadn't woken my Sleeping brother. At the end of the next half mile I turned to the left back onto the winding roads I knew so well. To the right was a gap in the trees just wide enough for a car. I turned onto the muddy track and it leads me to Devil's plunge.
Ryder awoke as I pulled the flashy car to a stop, the vibrations of the engine stopping pulling him from his doze. The boy's movement also aroused the massive dog. He stretched and asked, "Are we almost there?" I chuckled at his childish behavior.
