Adam's P.O.V

Day two in solitary began with a rather rude awakening from Vince. "You up off your lazy ass" He snapped pulling me to my feet. I was still blinking the sleep from my eyes as I was cuffed and led into the brightly lit hallway.

"Uh- Where-"

"Clinic. Dr Harriet heard about your little escapade and demanded to give you o check up." Vince said through gritted teeth as if he had it his way I'd still be shut behind the huge grey door of my cell. We walked down a maze of corridors in silence, Vince breaking the quiet only to greet his fellow wardens. There was little need for him to lead me to the clinic I had been there on several other occasions, and the white walls were no different than before. I was quickly escorted into a room which contained a single bed and had walls lined with cabinets and fancy, and slightly menacing equipment.

"Sit him on the bed," A smooth female voice said as Vince led me in. He did as he was told, removing the handcuffs from around my wrists before leaving to take his position up outside the door. "Been fighting again I see." Harriet commented turning to face me, glancing up from the clipboard she held in her hands. She was a very pretty young woman with curly brown hair and green eyes. We had come to know each other quite well over the 5 week s I had been here. All I did was shrug in reply to her comment.

"Did you enjoy it? Beating them up?" She questioned as she began to examine my injuries.

"They deserved it." I hissed, wincing away from her as her fingers brushed my cut eyebrow.

"That's what you said about the last six," She sighed turning on her heel to grab something from behind her. "Don't you think you should say sorry at least." I rolled my eyes in disbelief, saying sorry would sooner get me killed than do any good in a place like this.

"Fuck an apology. I'm not sorry for anything." I said defensively.

"You get a kick out of beating people weaker than you don't you?" She continued to ask me questions, trying and failing, to distract me from the rather large needle she held in her hand. "Relax, it's just going to help disinfect your cuts." She explained taking a hold of my arm. I looked away as she slid the hypodermic needle into my arm.

"How in any way are they-"

"You competed in boxing competitions at a state level. The boys you've been battering to the ground have no clue what they're doing?" She removed the needle from my arm and disposed of it in the bright orange bin in one corner.  I opened my mouth to respond but her words silenced me, and I sat there thinking them over. The quiet stretched on for several minutes until Harriet spoke again changing the subject.

"That cut in your eyebrow is rather serious." She muttered running a finger over it. I winced away, dreading what was to come. "I'm going to have to stitch it shut."

"Of course you are." I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I hadn't spoken loudly enough for her to hear me, but she knew something was wrong the moment my eyes found the needle and thread in her hand.

"You really don't like needles do you?" She laughed slightly, her hands busy threading the needle.

"What gave you that Idea?" I tried to laugh it off.

"The way you get all fidgety every time you see one," She chuckled. Harriet kept talking trying to keep my attention away from the needle edging closer to my eyebrow. "I don't get it though. You have enough tattoos. They must be hard to get if you're scared of needles."

"I am not scar-" But my words were cut short as she began to stitch my eyebrow back together.

"So, Adam, tell me how a boy who hates needles manages to sit through hours of pain just for a few tattoos?" I had to hand it to Dr. Harriet, she knew what she was doing. Talking to her distracted my from the throbbing pain above my eye.

"My boy- My friend Theo always came with me," I explained, my fists turning white as they gripped the edge of the bed.

"Boyfriend huh?" Then she paused. "Well, that's you done. Don't play with the stitches. It'll scar, but not too obviously." Then she headed to the door and stuck her head out the door. "He's all done in here." Vince came back into the room and quickly escorted me out. Just as I reached the door I turned back to face Dr. Harriet.

"Thanks."

"It was my pleasure. Just make sure I don't see you again for at least two weeks, or I'll start to think you're making a habit of this on purpose."
