Chapter 24: The Baby

Ashton's POV

It's been twenty minutes since Gen walked out and we are all really worried. "She doesn't know her way around L.A!" Morgan says walking back and forth. "I'll go look for her." I say getting up and putting my shoes on. Caitlin asks to come with me but I don't want her getting a cold as the weather has gotten colder.

Outside the apartment I realise that I should have taken Luke or someone with me, I have no idea where I'm going. I walk toward the park as thats where we were today, so maybe she went there. When I get close enough I see her, I'm about to shout her name when I realise she's not alone, I can't hear much of what she's saying but I hear the word baby. I walk towards her but I'm stopped in my tracks as the person she is talking to slaps her across the face. "Hey!" I shout running towards them, the man runs off when I reach Gen. I pull her into a hug and then she breaks down crying in my arms. "I'm here, I won't let anyone hurt you." I whisper in her ear.

I text Kira and let her know I found Gen. Once she's calmed down a bit I offer her my jacket which she puts on graciously. "Thank you." She whispers, looking at the floor. I sit down on the bench and pull her next to me. "Want to tell me what that was about?" I ask tucking a piece of her behind her ear. "If I tell you, you can't tell anyone." She looks at me her cheeks still bright red from the tears. I stick out my pinky and we pinky promise. "When I was sixteen, I fell in love, well I thought it was love. He was a bit older, about twenty one. His name was Mark, he was sweet and caring, but as time went on he started getting controlling. If I didn't do what he said or if I met him late he would get angry and soon his anger turned to aggression. But I loved him so much, I couldn't lose him." She goes quiet and looks at the ground. Why would she fall in love with such a monster, she deserves so much. "Go on." I say putting my arm over her shoulder. "He didn't like to use protection and soon enough I got pregnant. I just turned eighteen, I didn't want a baby! I hadn't even finished college, but he said that we could do it and that he would buy us a house and he offered me all these wonderful things. But he was still hurting me. I couldn't tell anyone as they would tell me to leave him and I couldn't do that." I stare at her in shock.
"You were pregnant!" She looks away ashamed.
"When the baby was born, he didn't come to the birth, even though he was the one who wanted the baby. I fell in love with her, she was so tiny, but Mark hated her. He called her names and said she shouldn't have been born. I had to get away from him, I didn't want her to be in danger." She starts crying again. I snuggle her close to me. "Before I could leave, he ran away with my baby. I was so scared. He was so mean I didn't want her anywhere near him, he returned later that night, he told me that he gave her to an orphanage. He said that I could never see my baby girl again. This was all just a year and a half ago, I'm nearly twenty and it still haunts me." I stroke her hair, I can't believe this happened to her, that poor baby. "What happened next?" I ask. "I left him, he wouldn't tell me where my baby was. I couldn't tell my family or friends though, as I didn't want them to think of me as a bad mother. I moved to Hastings and that's where I found Tr33s." I knew Gen had a past but this has surprised me. "I will always be here for you, I can help you get your baby back, and I promise, I will never leave you." I lean in and kiss her lips. I will protect her and this baby.
