Chapter 19

Mouse P.O.V

Jayson just stared at me the first half of dinner. It didn't bother me because I grew up around him. He was the one that put me on and protected me when Junie went down. "So you like my daughter?" Jayson asked in his natural quiet voice. "I do" I said. Marina looked down at her plate and smiled. "You know how I am about the ones I love. But I took you under my wing when you were just jumping off the porch, I know you're a good kid" Jayson said. "I just want your permission" I said. "I'm not ready to lose my daughter Mouse, but I know if I don't approve she'll find a way around it. No babies" he said. "No doubt! Sex the farthest thing on my mind" I said looking away. Jayson laughed, "I used to be 16, remember that" he said. "Okay dad can we please change the subject!" Marina whined. "Yes, that's enough Jayson" April said. Marina smiled at her and then glanced at me, I winked.

After dinner we went up to Marina's room. April went to work and Jayson hit the block, they didn't leave us unattended though. Jeremy came over and told me I only had an hour. "That went well" I said lying next to Marina. "Now that we're officially allowed to date, will you be my boyfriend?" Marina asked. "You asking me out?" I asked smiling. Marina shrugged, "I guess that's what it sounds like" she said. "Fashoo, I'll be more than happy to be yo man!" I said kissing her lips. "Don't hurt me" Marina said looking in my eyes. She told me all about her last boyfriend and I had no intention in following in his footsteps! "You got my word! Promise me some though" I said. Marina sat up, "Anything" she said. "Don't ever give up on me, no matter how rough it get. If I'm ever down bad, just promise me you gone be my rock" I said seriously. "Tremaine I'm gone have yo back no matter what, because I know in my heart you gone have mine!" Marina said. We stared at each other for a minute and then she held out her pinky. I laughed and hooked mine to hers. Jeremy came and stood in the doorway. "My hour up?" I asked. "Yeah but, stay a lil while. Dad won't be back to damn near morning. Just don't stay too late, y'all still got school in the morning" Jeremy said closing the door. I laid down and pulled Marina close to me. "At the hotel we didn't use a condom" she said. "That was my bad" I said. "I can't get pregnant and disappoint my dad, so we gotta be careful" Marina said looking deep into my eyes. "I'll make sure I always got a condom on for now on" I said. "Or I could get on birth control" Marina said. "Either way, we gotta be more careful and hope this one time don't fuck it up" I said. "Imma get outta here, but I'll be here at 7 to pick you up" I said kissing her lips and the ln getting up.

Tara P.O.V

We decided not to have a full blown funeral. A select few were invited which was basically our little circle and immediate family. Only person missing was Marina, but she's still grieving her mom so I just want her to focus on school. It was finally over and our little Nia Aaliyah was laid to rest. AJ laid next to me and kissed the bridge of my nose. "This don't feel real" I said. "I know, I wish this was all just a dream too" AJ said. Terian woke up and stood up in his crib. "Hey big man" AJ said looking up. "Mama" Terian said. AJ got up and put Terian on the bed. Terian crawled over to me and wiped the tears from my eyes and then kissed my lips. I smiled and pulled him closer to me. "I'm okay baby" I said. My heart was hurting but I had to be strong for Terian. "We gone be good" AJ said. "I know, we just gotta be strong for Terian. He don't know what's going on" I said playing with Terian's long braids that reached the center of his back. I didn't know how we was gone do it but we just had too!

Riah and Courtney came home and started cooking. I got up and went downstairs to the kitchen. "Y'all need help?" I asked. "No, go lay down" Riah said. "I'm tired of laying down!" I said. "Well we don't need no help, go take a shower and come back down" Courtney said. "We gone relax and just catch up" Riah said. "Okay, I need some wine! Just to take my mind off of things" I said. "You know I got you covered!" Riah said pulling out two bottles of Moscato. "I love you" I said getting teary eyed. "Aww stop crying before you make me cry!" Riah said coming over and hugging me. "I can't help it" I sobbed. I got up and went upstairs. Terian was knocked out on the bed with AJ. I grabbed a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. I had the shower water steaming hot. When I got in my mother popped in my head. I don't know why but she did. Just two years ago she was doing good, Shaneka even sent Chase to stay with her while her and Malcolm were going through it. But now she's in rehab, I know it was getting to uncle Jayson the most. After all she is his baby sister.
