Riah talked me into staying with her for a night. I agreed because I didn't want to be alone. It really felt good knowing my father and siblings. I always dreamed about this day and now it was finally here. I'd only been in town for two days and so far I'm loving New York. Dad took me shopping the first day I got out here. But I miss Donovan, I know he doesn't understand any of this. He's only 4, I'm upset my family didn't fight harder to keep him away from DJ's family. I understand that's his father but he took our mother away from us! "You good lil sis?" Jeremy asked. "Yeah, I'm okay" I said realizing I had zoned out. My phone rung and I answered. "Sooo hows everything going?" my best friend Tiffany sang through the phone. I escused myself and went outside. "Everything's actually going great" I said. "I miss yo ass soo much! I saw Donovan today and he told me to tell you to come get him. I could've cried!" Tiffany said. "I miss my baby! My grandma could've took them to court man, I wish I was 18 because he would be here with me and not there with them! They don't ever answer their phone so I can talk to him!" I said tearing up. "Hold up, Imma call Ms. Lucy on three way" Tiffany said. I paced back and forth until I heard Donovan's voice. "Hey bubby" I said as tears started flowing. I hadn't talked to him in a week. "Sissy can you please come get me, I wanna be with you!" Donovan said as he started crying. "Stop crying bubby, I promise I'm gone come get you okay?" I said. "Okay, grandma Lisa said we gotta go now" Donovan said. "Do you remember sissy number? Call me whenever you want too!" I said. Donovan hung up and I couldn't stop the tears. "You alright? Come ride with me" I heard a familiar voice say.

Tremaine took me to a small little coffee shop and we ordered. As we were waiting for our cappuccino and pastries we sat a table. I laughed. "What's so funny?" Tremaine asked. "You don't strike me as the type to go on coffee dates" I said. "Who said this was a date" Tremaine asked. "I didn-" I stammered. "Chill I was just playing. Hood niggas drink coffee too" Tremaine said laughing. I blushed kind of embarrassed. "Anyway wanna tell me why I found you crying?" Tremaine asked. "I guess you can kind of say I miss home. Well my little brother for the most part. And the whole situation about my brother's father killing our mother" I said. Tremaine got quiet. "I'm sorry to hear that" he said looking me in the eyes. I had to change the subject before I got all emotional again. "So tell me how a black boy gets green eyes" I said smiling. "Honestly I really don't know, but I'm not complaining either. You can have whatever you want with these eyes" Tremaine joked. I laughed, "And what exactly do you want?" I asked. "Right now I want you, but you don't look like you in my league. You probably mess with smart nerdy dudes" Tremaine said. "Wanna know something funny?" I asked. "Humor me" Tremaine said. The waitress brought us our order. "I think you're smart, a little hood but smart" I said. Tremaine shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not. But the real question is would you ever be willing to know me a chance?" Tremaine asked. "Maybe, maybe not" I said taking a sip of my cappuccino.

As soon as we made it back to New York I made Marco take me straight to see JJ. We grabbed all of his things we'd gotten in Miami. Rian opened the door just as we were about to knock. "Hey" I said. "Wassup" Rian said stepping out the way so we could come in. "Jayrian" Rian called. JJ ran in living room. He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me. "Mommy!" he said. It melted my heart how his whole face lit up. "Hey baby" I said hugging him. Marco handed him his stuff. "Mommy brought you a lot of stuff back from Miami, I missed you so much" I said. "I missed you too, I thought you forgot about me" JJ putting his head down. "I can never forget about my favorite boy! Go pack some things" I said. JJ ran to the back. "How long you plan on keeping him?" Rian asked. "About that" I said pulling out court documents and handing them to him. Rian read over it and then frowned. "You signing your rights over?" he asked. "I gotta get myself together" I said. "Layla what kind of selfish ass shit is that? You can go on trips and spend all this money, party and God knows what else but you can't raise our kid!" Rian snapped. "You're making it sound way worse than what it is!" I snapped back. "No you're just selfish and you're not the one that has to sit up at night and make up excuses as to why mommy won't come get him. Layla just admit it, you never wanted him!" Rian growled. Marco looked uncomfortable but he didn't wanna get involved in our little quarrel. It got quiet when we both noticed JJ standing in the doorway watching. "So you don't want me anymore?" JJ asked. He began to cry and he put his head down. I walked over to him and tried to hug him. He snatched away. "I don't need you anyway! Kristen can be my mommy. She takes care of me anyway!" JJ yelled. He ran back in his room and slammed the door. "Thanks a fucking lot Rian!" I yelled as tears streamed down my face. I stormed out of the house, that just broke my heart.
