3 Weeks EarlierGeorgina was fearful of a lot of things; Heights, spiders, rollarcoasters, creepy old houses and anything that most people would consider scary. Her worst fear being butterflies, irrational, just like the mind. It seemed as though in a world like this, she would have been one of the first to die, but she didn't. She held her pain and she kept going, and that took a greater strength than being fearless.
She looked upon the stone walls of the gated community and wondered what life would be like inside, could she ever live there? She was too afraid to let any people hold her trust, she didn't want to get burned, she knew what it felt like and she couldn't take the pain again.
Georgina had a line. She was forgiving and sensitive, but if you crossed that line you could never go back. She would never be burned twice by the same person.
She still had a heart, dispite the world always trying to rip it away from her. She held onto that small shread of compassion and humanity, she held onto herself. She didn't want to lose herself to everything that had happened to her. She almost did, pleanty of times, but she picked herself back up and she carried on, and that was the greatest strength of all.
She wondered what had transpired behind those walls, was there people who had lost the ones they loved? Lost their minds to the guilt of the world? Or behind those stone walls were there two people who could never live without eachother? She envied happiness, her's had been ripped from her hands.
I wonder what would it be like if he..
She stopped herself, a pain blossoming in her heart. She pressed her eyes shut and swallowed the rush of emotion. She chose to let go, to try and go on even though the first thought she had every morning and night was of him.
Memories flooded into her mind and she let herself drift into the sweet bliss of the past.
Her footfalls fell hard on the ground as her legs pumped, the ground moving fast beneath her feet. It was getting dark now, the evening sun dimming into oranges and purples. She ignored the growls from behind her and pushed herself harder, a small grunt leaving her mouth. She threw herself onto the chain-link fence and climbed, the muscles on her arms feeling wobbly as she supported her whole weight, throwing herself over the metal as undead clawed at her feet.
She hit the ground, her lungs gasping for oxygen. The undead pushed against the fence which threatened to fall, she pushed on once more. More undead hobbled in from around the buildings, following her as she ran. Her satchel bobbed again her legs, the medical supplies she had found shaking inside the dark brown leather.
She rounded a corner and screeched as an undead emerged from the shadows and knocked her down, crawling towards her as its teeth grinded against eachother. She screamed, her hands holding its head away from her as its dead skin pulled away from its skull. Infected blood trickled down her arms as she wrestled with the undead, a small horde of infected closing in from behind her. She felt like that was her end, that her live had come to this anticlimactic moment.
Just as her doubt kicked in, a loud gunshot rang out into the air, the undead falling slack against her. She scrambled out from under it, her heart drumming inside her chest. A small snapping explosion caught her attention, the undead followed the small bursts of light and sound and Georgina searched around for her saviour.
