There was a spark of hope. A sliver of light. It was intoxicating, and the whole of Greenview could feel it. Though the sky dimmed when they got back, with Samara and a few of her Islanders in tow, there was a glow about the night. For the first time in awhile, Lauren felt like she could see the end of this. She wanted to be able to live a simpler life. She had lost track of all of the things she loved on her quest to take down Negan, and it was time that it ended. She hadn't even sat down with Judith in weeks.

She imagined a world where she didn't have to fight, though she knew that was impossible. Fighting was a part of her now, it was her go-to means of survival. She had made many mistakes, and the blood that stained her hands was never going to wash away. All she could do was embrace the tendrails of blackness that weaved their way into her soul.

"We're going to plan it out," Lauren said once she stepped into the lobby. A crowd had gathered around her and in the night air there hung a fleeting sense of hope, "We have the weapons and we have the people. I need every able-bodied man and woman willing to fight to come forward. Nobody will force you, and there is a chance you won't come back. I'm not going to sugar-coat it. This is for our freedom and for every person we have lost to the Saviors. We are strong. We are the Survivors!"

Wrapped up in the silken sheets, Georgina knew that she had made a mistake. She was playing a role, yes, but she had slept with Negan. She had laid in the bed of her enemy. He lay on the other side of the bed, his arm draped over her body. She could kill him there, all it would take was to reach over and get the knife that lay at his bedside. Her mindset was distorted, she knew that this was wrong. However, she liked it. She let herself feel something for the man who's soul was only evil. She felt like there was something inside of him that was good. She imagined a man that had got so wrapped up in the death and chaos of the world that he had lost his way, his view on humanity, he cared only to survive like everyone else. He had just taken it a step further.

She couldn't defend him, could she?

A day later, Lauren had prepared her army. She clutched her machete between her fingers as they trained, learning the basics on aim and stance, without wasting the ammunition they so desperatly needed.

"It's really going to happen," Carl said from beside her. She nodded absently.

"I can't help but feel like I'm signing everyone's death sentences," She said, turning her head to look at him more directly, "I'm afraid that we'll lose, Carl, and that will be the end of out story."

"We won't lose," He reassured, snaking a gentle arm around her waist. She leaned into the comfort that his body gave hers. She sighed, "Our story will always live on. Look at what we've built here. This place will stand, and it's all because of you, Lauren. You've given so many people a life."

"I'm afraid that I'll take that life from them too."

Negan wrapped his arm around Georgina's waist. She could feel Matt's eyes on her, a guilt like no other coursed through her body. She had noticed that Negan was much more affectionate with her throughout that whole day. It made her heart race viciously.

"Come with me," Negan said, grasping her wrist in his callous fingers. She looked up at him, confused. He needed to make an announcement, and he never asked anyone to come up with him. He was Negan. "Come on, darling."

Georgina complied. She followed him up the steel steps towards the railing. She could see the crowds of Saviors and megre workers that had poured into the large open area. She recalled being one of those people, looking up at Negan in all his power. He seemed to exude confidence in every aspect of his being. Even the way he walked. He placed the hand that was previously holding Georgina's on the railing and leaned forward as if he was surveying each and every person. Lucille dangled from his other hand.

She knew it was obvious to everyone that she was the one that warmed his bed.

"I have an announcement to make," His voice boomed through the air. She wondered how he could be so loud, that his words could carry so far and sink right into the hearts of everybody. "So listen up."

Negan then looked to Georgina, a smirk on his handsome face. She looked to his lips, the lips that she had kissed. She could feel them on her skin, sending goosebumps over her body. He had ravished her, drinking her in like she was the last drop of water on Earth. He bent down and placed Lucille gingerly on the ground. One knee touched the floor and Georgina's pulse jumped.

"I would like to ask this fantastic woman to become my wife."

A deafening silence descended on the crowd. She swore she could hear the breeze. She felt her throat become dry. Negan produced a ring, and held it out towards her.

"I will take only you," He said, much lower this time and Georgina stared at him, utterly stunned. She parted her lips to speak, but she couldn't muster up the courage to speak, "You can have the world, darling. You ask and I will provide. What do you say?"

She didn't really have much choice in the matter. She couldn't exactly say no. The word had left her mouth before she had even realised.

"Yes."

The thick air seemed to thin and Georgina was sucked back into reality. Negan slid the ring onto her finger and scooped her up in his arms. His lips were on hers a second later, and when he placed her back down on the ground, she could see Matt's figure pushing through the crowd and away from her. She knew she had made a mess of everything.

Not long ago, she was here with Matt trying to save Lauren who was so broken she couldn't remember who she was. Negan had been the one responsible for that fate. He was the enemy.

"There will be a celebration tomorrow!" Negan announced, snaking his arms around Georgina's waist

She had earned his trust, and that was what mattered. Right?
