Daniel tugged me by the hand to sit under a shaded oak tree and I reluctantly sat down next to him. I was more than a little self conscious as my hands were slick with sweat due to nerves.

"So what's this deal then?" I asked suspiciously, trying not to make my voice come out shaky.

"It's really simple. You do for me, whatever I ask of you for the month and in return, I pay your rent," he smiled cockily.

Was it that simple? Just do a few chores for him here and there, maybe he'd ask me to clean his car or something. This was great, a little cleaning and I got my rent paid, awesome.

I grinned probably looking like the biggest idiot ever.

"Great, it's a deal," I held out my hand for him to shake, his firm hand grasped mine and pulled me by his side so he could whisper in my ear.

"Your first mission, to give me that cupcake," I could hear the smile in his voice. I looked down at my lunch tray, damn that cupcake looked good, I handed it to him, hating myself for parting with it.

"Thanks, darling. Oh, and for future references, it's Daniel by the way." He kissed my cheek and walked away. I would have smacked his chest playfully but he was gone before I could so.

I got up and dusted myself off and made my way to our regular table, pretending my encounter with Daniel didn't happen.

"S'up guys?" I greeted my group of friends.

They all said hey, sounding like those annoying crabs from Finding Nemo, I laughed at my little joke and they all gave me confused looks before shrugging it off. All they needed now was some pincers and then they could seriously win a prize for best impressions! You really need to get a life I told myself. Meh, it's already been established I'm a little childish, but hey, makes me all the more fun to be around!

I couldn't help myself throwing in little jokes whenever was necessary all lunch time.

Every time someone said Kyle's name I'd quickly shout, "Shark bait, hoo haha." Everyone looked at me like I was crazy and it just made me laugh all the more. Despite my turmoil at home I acted as I normally would, or at least tried to. This was the one place that offered me an escape from that part of my life and I gladly embraced it.

Paula was in the middle of an intense conversation with Mike and when she paused for dramatic effect, I couldn't help but sing the little song the fish sung when Nemo swam through the bubbly volcano thingy.

"Ha ho ha he ha ho ho ho." Kyle joined in, he loved that film too and the rest of our friends pretended like they didn't know us but Kyle and I were used to it, we were the crazy ones. It made our day that little bit more exciting, no-one, even us both, knew what would come out our mouths.

Once we had stopped laughing I threw myself at Kyle's feet. "Master, here at your command."

"Da feet! What did I tell you about ze feet?" he quoted from Madagascar. I erupted at that and the rest of our lunch was filled with us quoting cartoons. It was easily one of the best days I had in school, even if my grandmother was now gone and Daniel had stolen my cupcake. I wasn't going to let that go, I was looking forward to eating it since I laid eyes on its delicious frosting.

When I got home from school, I cleaned the apartment quickly and did all my homework to get it out of the way. The house felt empty without my Grandmother, even if she wasn't the best company, she was still here and she was familiar. I missed her even though she barely communicated with me.

Time seemed to fly by after I had my dinner and before I knew it, I was curled up in bed going to sleep.

Just as I was drifting off to unconsciousness, the buzzer rang and I woke with a start.

Groggily, I went to answer it.

"It's me darling, let me up," he said in a mocking voice. Daniel? What was he doing here? Only one way to find out so I pressed the enter button to let him in.

I dragged my feet back to my warm and cosy bed and seconds later, someone who I assumed to be Daniel, jumped in beside me, literally jumped. I bounced up and down with the mattress as Daniels unexpected weight dropped onto it.

"What the hell are you doing in my bed?" I shouted, swatting his arm.

"Hey, that's no way to talk to the guy who's paying your rent," he replied, feigning hurt.

I groaned, he was never going to let me forget that. He'd hang it over my head forever more. It would be teasing me like a carrot dangling in frog of a donkey, unable to take just one bite of it.

"I'm tired, please let me just go to sleep," I begged.

He looked lost in thought for a moment then turned to me with a cocky smirk.

"Only if I can come with," he raised his eyebrows suggestively.

"Ugh, you are disgusting."

Daniel raised an eyebrow as if daring me to continue to refuse.

I sighed. "Fine. But keep to that side and I don't want to feel your hands anywhere near me. Got it? Hands. Above. The. Covers." I said that last part slowly, as if it would sink in more if I talked to him like a child.

He held his hands up in surrender but smirked at me. Of course he wasn't going to abide by my rules, he was paying my rent wasn't he. I was the one who had to do as he said, not the other way around much to my distaste.

I felt hands around my waist and lips on my neck seconds later. I had seriously misinterpreted his agreement but I couldn't back out now, I would be homeless!

I groaned internally and let him have his fun while I slipped into unconsciousness. The thought sickened me but I would feel better if I couldn't feel his arms around me.
