Ant
I sit down at one of the many tables outside with the boys right across from me. Malachi is staring a hole through me while Nas is throwing down on his plate.
"Mr. Ant, why do you hang out with my mom?"
"Well Malachi, I think ya' momma is a really sweet person an' she makes me happy."
"She make lots of people happy, 'specially Nas and me. You make her happy?"
"I'm not sure...I haven't asked ha' yet."
"Well ask. She spend lots a' time not being happy, so make sure you do."
"I'a be sure to check. You know, you're a pretty smart guy Malachi."
"I know, I'm the brains of the house. Nas...I not sure what he is."
Nasir picks his head up and frowns at his brother.
"I'm the favorite of the house, fathead," he replies.
Laughing at the two, I notice Leila walking out of the house looking irritated. She walks up to the grill to get her food from Mr. Hardwick. If it wasn't for his invite, my day would've been a bust. My mama took Kay out to the mall to get her hair done. I don't see why, her hair stay laid by me...
I feel a tug on my shirt and look down at Nas.
"Mr. Ant, can I go play now?"
"You not gon' wait on ya mama?"
"Not really, I wanna get on the bounce house before the other kids finish eating..."
"Gon' head lil man," I chuckled.
He gets up from the table and throws away his trash. Putting her plate on the table, Leila sits down next to me.
"Where's Speedy headed?"
"He wanted to get onna' bounce house before the otha' kids."
"That sounds about right. Malachi, you want anything else to eat?"
With a soft smile, he replies, "Nah, I'm gonna go play with Nas. Mr. Ant, rememba' what we talk about."
I nod my head as he goes to join his brother. Leila glances at me in suspicion.
"So, what did you two talk about?"
"You."
She tilts her head, "Really, you gossiping about me to my kids now? I knew you weren't loyal..."
