Six years laterI feel myself being shaken once again by my son. I never left Louisiana because I didn't want my boys to miss out on having their father around. No child should have go through that...
"Mommy, it's time to wake up. You going to be late."
"Five more minutes..."
"I give you five minutes, and that was thirty minutes ago. You need to get up right now !"
Getting more annoyed by the second, I slowly rose from under the covers and checked the clock. As it read 7:30, I realized my baby had set me up.
I don't have work until 10 today.
But, Malachi knows that once I'm really up that I won't go back to sleep. What happened to me being the parent ?
Trying to ignore the light burning my eyes, I roll out of bed and stare at the wall. My son smiles in my face as if he wasn't just irritating the hell out me a minute ago.
I groggily ask him, "Is all of your stuff together ?"
He nods his head slowly, meaning that only he was ready. My sons look alike but they are day and night. Nasir hates going to visit his father on the weekends. The only reason he isn't kicking and screaming today is because we're all spending time together later on. Cedric and I agreed that we'd put our shit aside twice a month to spend time as a family.
"Nasir, you need to have a bag packed by 8 o' clock! You have to stay with your father until I get off from work."
Malachi grins and shakes his head. "Nobody do what they're supposed to do in this house,"
"Well smart guy, since you're the man of the house you can go help your brother and make breakfast."
He looks around him then turns back to me. "Mama, my name is not Jimmy Dean. I make cereal for me, but that's it."
I roll my eyes as he walks out of the room. That boy is something else. I don't know where he gets that attitude from....
---------------
After getting dressed, I run downstairs to see the twins eating a bowl of cereal. Usually I cook breakfast, but I wasn't feeling too hot today. I grab a bagel and take a seat at the table.
The boys were rambling about some new video game they wanted for their birthday. I don't mind buying it for them, they never give me much trouble. As I watch them continue the conversation, I notice their features. Ced and I made some big-headed kids with big mouths, but I wouldn't trade them for the world.
Nasir looks my way, "So ma, can we go to the store after we see dad today ?"
"I'll see what happens, did you pack your bag?"
He sighs loudly, "Yes, but can I just go to work with you ?"
I usually would let the boys sit at the studio with me or join one of the classes, but I'm teaching the older class back-to-back today.
"Not today, I promise I'll only be at the studio for about three hours. After that, I'll be ready for our trip."
Malachi raises his hand, "Okay, but can we actually have fun this time ?"
Mal loves his dad, but he's not a fan of his newest groupie. He took her with us to the zoo when we last went.
Nasir pipes in, "If Ms. Jules pinches my cheeks one more time, I'm putting the paws on her."
They high five each other and chuckle before continuing to eat their cereal. Hearing a knock on the door, I walk over to the window to peep who it is.
Cedric stands facing the window with his hand on his hip, looking like someone's babymother.
"Are you gonna open this door or nah because I got things to do !"
He's too fucking goofy. I unlock the door to let him in. He eyes me up and down before walking inside. Malachi automatically runs to him and Ced picks him up.
"What's up, Pops !"
"Nothing much lil' man, you ready to go ?"
"Yea, I'll get Nas and we can go..."
He goes back into the kitchen, leaving the two of us in the living room. Cedric turns towards me, showing off that grin that I fell in love with.
"What time do you finish classes today ?"
"Around 1:30"
"Cool, the boys and I will pick you up then."
"Doesn't your girl have to come with us too ?"
Okay I'll admit, I was a little jealous. But, I don't bring random men around my sons and Ced should be the same way about women. I've seen him run through plenty of girls through the past couple of years and my sons have met them all.
"Calm down, Jules was just a quick nut. You mad ?"
No, just frustrated. Six years without dick can drive a bitch crazy.
"Not at all, do you boo."
Before he could produce a rebuttal, Mal and Nas came downstairs with their bags in hand.
He whispers in my ear, "We'll continue this conversation later."
I laugh softly in response, "Whatever Ced."
They came over to me and kissed me on each cheek before going out of the door with their dad.
Sitting on the couch, I call my girl Tia to catch a ride to work. Let the day begin...
