The next few days went by with nothing really happening. The death hound we had killed was just now starting to run out and by that I mean it was fit to be consumed by anything let alone us. We could tell we were getting close though. The terrain became drastically different. Even before the world began to crumble Louisiana was covered with swamps, but now they had taken over nearly everything.

We were all exhausted from walking with the sun beating down on us. Tessa was now walking on her own, not fully healed but she was okay enough to walk.

"Shouldn't we stop and take a break?" Hannah asked.

"Let's keep going maybe there will be a better place to set up camp." I said not wanting to stop now since we're getting so close.

"Damian we know you want to push in till we actually get to New Orleans, we all do, but we have to stop. We're all tired and New Orleans isn't going anywhere." Hannah responded.

"Fine, lets stop. I'll see if I can get a fire started." I told her.

Due to us being in the middle of the swamp there wasn't much dry wood around. It took a good hour just to get the wood to light but we were happy to have.

"So do you really think any one will actually be there when we reach New Orleans?" Sean asked.

"I don't know that's what I'm hoping for though." I told him.

"Yea we all do." Sean responded.

For the next hour we just sat around and talked. Eventually the conversation strayed to what our lives were like before normal life was destroyed. For once there wasn't anything for us to be worried about. That's when something out of the ordinary happened.

We could hear other people's voice floating through the swamp to us. These weren't new voices though we had heard them before and I had a score to settle with the owner of one of the voices. Before anyone else could due anything I was already on my feet and making a dash in the direction their voices were coming from. I could hear the others following behind me , but I was way ahead and didn't plan on stopping in till I had settled my score.

Gradually under my feet the ground was turning to concrete but I was taking no notice. Suddenly the trees just stopped and when I stepped out there were buildings of all sorts around, but what I was interested in was standing in front of me with his back turned.

I directly into him knocking him onto the ground. Before he had the opportunity to compose himself I landed a volley of punches. Unfortunately I was so focused on getting my revenge on Joe I had forgotten about Kris. He grabbed me from behind and tossed me about five feet from where Joe was lying on the ground. Before he had the chance to attack me on the ground I got to my feet and aimed a punch at him. Unlike Joe he was prepared for an attack and dodged the punch. Now I knew I couldn't beat Kris in a hand to hand fight but I lunged at him anyway.

He easily blocked my attempt at landing a hit on him while managing to hit me. To make things worse Joe pulled himself together and was now beating me as well. A shot from Kris sent me to the ground.

Joe stood over and while drawing his pistol said,"This time I'll finish the job."

Luckily the others had apparently caught up and Sean threw himself onto Joe before he had pulled the trigger. They both pulled themselves to their feet and prepared for the fight to continue but it was stopped when from one of the buildings near by a spotlight flipped on and was aimed at us.

"Who are you?" An unfamiliar voice asked.
