Kay and Rossi took the kids down stairs and called in a sketch artist. Even if they could get a slight description from the kids it would be a help. "Daniel, Meagan, we have this nice lady right here who is very good at drawing people. Do you think you could explain to her what the man looked like," Kay asked. They nodded."He had curly brown hair like Daniels and a mark on his face," Meagan explained.
"A mark," Kay asked. "Like a scar?"
"Yeah, from here," Meagan pointed to her eyebrow, "to here." She pointed to her bottom lip.
"That's gonna be very helpful you guys, Now I have to ask, did your mommy recently fuss at or scold you in public for doing something wrong?" They hung there heads.
"We opened a box of cookies in the store and mommy said we can't do that," Daniel whispered.
Kay nodded and a man busted through the door. "Danny? Megs?" He grabbed the kids.
"Woah! Sir, you need to back away," Kays hand hovered over her gun and the other hand was outstretched as a warning.
"These are my children!"
Just then Rossi came in, "It's alright Kay he's been cleared." Kay thanked him and left the kids with there dad and the sketch artist. Her cell began to ring.
"Hey Hotch what's up?"
"Update me." Kay gave him the low down of everything that's happened. "He didn't harm them at all," Hotch asked.
"No, they look and act fine considering what just happened. Of course were gonna have an ambulance take them to the hospital to be checked out just in case but they say they're okay. The only harm he did to them was taking away the most important thing in their lives," Kay watched as they zipped the body up in the bag. "Aaron I wanna catch this guy. Quickly. I'm on my way back to the station I'll talk to you when I get there." Kay hung up the phone.
Rossi came up to her and wrapped a comforting arm around her. A silent promise from the man who was slowing becoming the father she never had, that they would catch this guy.................................................................
Kay and Rossi made their way back to the station and of course their team had taken over every available table and white board. Reid had what looked like ten large maps spread every where and had tacks and strings connecting different sections. The doctor himself was hunched over one of the maps with two different colored highlighters behind his ears, a marker in his mouth, and a pencil in his hand.
He didn't even notice them come in but that was good. It meant his brain was working full force.Aaron however came and stood by Kay who was looking at one of the boards. He silently wrapped an arm around her waist. Kay smiled and leaned in a little. It was his way of saying he was there, he was always there for her. He knew it calmed her to feel his warmth. She always felt safe in his arms.
Kay loved it, She didn't always want or need large and lavish displays of affection ( though she does enjoy it... As you can probably tell). His silent towering presence, an arm around her waist, his hand gently squeezing her own, it was just what she needed. "I have his location narrowed down to about a twenty mile radius but that's till to much ground to cover," Reid grumbled tacking the map to the board. Kay placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"You're doing your best with what you've been given Spencer... Do you know if Meagan finished with the sketch artist yet?"
"Yeah, JJ has the photo, I think they're going to have a press conference soon," Reid answering absentmindedly, still staring at the map.
"Good," Kay nodded. "Women will be more aware if they know what they're looking for."
"Mothers do have a natural subconscious instinct to protect not only their own but even other people's children if the need arises," Reid noted.
"Most people fight for what they believe to me most pure and innocent. What can be more pure and innocent than a child," Aaron added. He now had to hands resting on either of Kay's hips and she was leaning into him slightly, enough to feel the warmth radiate off his body.
In the past few months their relationship had taken a more serious tone. To the point that marriage wasn't a forbidden word and Jack was calling her Mom.To her surprise, Kay was okay with it. She was sure she would ever be ready for such a commitment only a year ago but now....
Aaron was turning thirty-two soon and Kay twenty-eight. It was about the age most people got married.Kay pushed the thought away. She needs to focus on the case, nothing is more important. Kay had to find this guy before he killed someone else's mother. "At every other murder the unsub made sure to wait till the kids weren't home to attack but something changed this time."
"He's getting sloppy, he could be devolving," Hotch agreed.
"Which means he will make mistakes and be easier to catch but also much more dangerous," Reid concluded.
"We've got a problem," JJ announced. "A woman just called saying a man just took a mother from a gas station while her kids where in the car, the owner has them safe in the store now."
Kay grabbed her coat with Hotch and Reid in tow. It's time to catch this guy.
