Chapter 2

Now, I bet you think that Cat (the baby) was stranded. Well, I / she wasn’t. That’s right; I’m Cat. Didn’t I introduce myself before? Anyway, you probably want to hear what happened next. So, here is the rest.

Only a few seconds after the cop car with a police officer, Greg, and Sandy sped away from Cat, another police car came. It pulled up behind the blue minivan, and Officer Domino stepped out from the vehicle. He went over to the minivan, opened the door on the side where the baby was. He then gathered up the baby’s things, and eventually, the baby herself. Officer Jefferson got out of the police car and got the baby’s car seat.

Officer Jefferson helped her partner settle Cat in the back of the squad car, then when the policeman and woman got in themselves, they sped off. They didn’t go in the same direction as the other squad car. Instead, they went in the other way towards the closest town.

They went to the local orphanage, Miss Shay’s Open House. They again gathered up the baby and her things and walked up the steps of the building. They set Cat, who was in a baby carrier, on the top step.

Officer Jefferson knocked on the door. No sounds came from the orphanage. After a few seconds, she knocked on the door again. Again there were no sounds. This kept on repeating. Then Officer Domino rang the doorbell, witth the same thing happening again. They knocked on the door and rang the doorbell for a few minutes.

The officers kept on doing that until they were interrupted by voices coming over their walkie-talkies. There had been a recent robbery at a local gas station, and both officers were needed for backup. Officer Jefferson was hesitant when Officer Domino said they had to leave, but she finally agreed.

The baby was left alone for the second time that day.

After a few hours, it was the afternoon, right around 3 o'clock. Miss Shay and the kids at the orphanage had just come back from the park. They were walking on the sidewalk right by the building when Miss Shay saw something at the top of the steps. She heard a baby crying, so she raced up the stairs to the top.

An adorable baby was placed in a baby carrier with some diaper bags by her. Miss Shay gently lifted her out of the carrier, looking around to see if the person that had dropped her off was still around. She saw no one, except for the orphanage kids, who were now gathered at the top of the stairs by Miss Shay. All of the girls ‘oohed’ and ‘awed’ at the baby.

Miss Shay wasn’t reluctant at all to take this child in her care. She was one of the nicest people you could ever meet -- all of the new kids that came to her orphanage fell in love with her at once.

A day later, two police officers visited the orphanage and told Miss Shay the baby’s story. Her face held a look of forlorn. Poor child, she thought.

Eight years later, when Cat was eight years old, a new kid came to the orphanage. Her name was Carmen. She was very outgoing, even for an eight-year-old. Cat and Carmen hit it off right away, soon becoming best friends

Two years later, a girl named Maria came to Miss Shay’s. She was a really mean girl, and she still is today. Cat and Carmen instantly didn’t like her from the moment they met her. Two bossy best friends -- Dakota and April -- became Maria’s cronies. The three from then on, were horrible to the other kids at the orphanage. Cat and Carmen tried to tell Miss Shay that Maria and her friends were making the little kids cry, but Miss Shay didn’t believe them. She thought Maria, Dakota, and April were little angels.

When Cat and Carmen were twelve, kids started calling them C & C, or CC, because they had the same first letter of their names. Everyone loved Cat and Carmen, except for The Witches of course. The Witches were and still are Maria, Dakota and April. They wanted to be the idolized ones of the orphanage, but they were mean to everyone, and sweet to the young Miss Shay, who was 32.
