Chapter 4

So, the morning went pretty well. My afternoon? Not so much.

After the youngsters had their breakfast and such, things were pretty quiet. That is really rare in Miss Shay’s. Usually, the little children won’t keep their yappers shut.

All of the children were actually in the playroom, or outside. I usually don’t get to read much, so I took that time as an advantage to read. I love reading. I want to read more, but I’m normally super busy with the kids and my studies.

I was reading in my favorite room, the den, when in walked the grossest boy at the orphanage. Dustin. That boy is just wrong. He says a lot of gross things everyday. He teaches the little kids words that are supposed to be banned here. I guess the rules don’t apply to him.

He basically is a horrible person. I can’t wait for him to be adopted. I usually don’t wish that anyone would be adopted, because we’re like a family here, and I love these guys. Well, most of them anyway. Some people have come here and wanted to adopt Dustin, but Dustin can’t help but say some mean or nasty things while they are visiting. Guess who will probably not get adopted any time soon, besides me.

Anyway, the creeper walked in. I couldn’t see him, because my nose was buried in my book. I normally can sense the horrible presence when he enters. I can also hear him breathing out of his mouth. It’s really weird, and really annoying when he does that.

I put my book in my lap when I felt his presence. I saw him in the doorway. Once he saw that I was looking at him, he strolled over to me.

“Hey, Catalicious.” Ugh, I hate that nickname.

 “Hi, Dustin.”

“Do you wanna know my two favorite things about you?” Did I mention that he is a player? Anyway, ew. I already knew this “joke.” It was nasty.

He stared at me for a few seconds. I decided to get things going. I wanted to get back to my book, but most importantly, I wanted him to leave.

“What are your two favorite things about me, Dustin?” Even to me my voice sounded uninterested. That should give him a hint.

Just as I braced myself for something gross, I heard something sweet. “Your eyes," he breathed.

I gasped. That was the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. And, it came from a perv! Wait, that means he wants something.

“Dustin, erm, thanks... But what do you want from me?” I shifted in my seat.

“Nothing. I just want... to go out with you," he said sincerely.

I gasped. Again. Why did he want to go out with me? The boy was 13! I didn’t say anything for a while. I couldn’t, because I was having troubles breathing normally. That was okay, because Dustin kept on talking.

“So, will you date me? Please! Wait, um... How should I word this? Do I want to say it romantically, or should I... Oh, yeah. Cat, you’re right in front of me, aren’t you? Well, um, I-”
