Recap:
All of a sudden, the door opened and smacked me in the face. Or, rather, the nose. I groaned, clutching my nose, and backed away from the door. Now I kind of new how much pain Maria had felt. The person that opened the door started apologizing before I could even speak.
“Oh, my gosh! I’m so sorry!” a woman’s voice exclaimed.
“It’s-” I started to reply, but stopped short when I saw a person standing before me, along with other people.
The people that shouldn't have ever met.
Chapter Ten
“Cat?” Sarah questioned. “Are you okay?”
I was still too shocked to move.
“Well, her nose isn’t bleeding,” Kevin said.
“Too bad,” Maria muttered.
“Hey! We like know you!” Brittney exclaimed.
“Yeah! From the bookstore!” Tiffany added.
Sarah and Kevin. With Maria. And Brittney. And Tiffany. Together.
What?
“I’ve got the leftovers. Hey, what’s going on out here?” a very familiar voice said.
I did a double-take when Miss Shay materialized. What was she doing here? Along with everyone else?
“Miss Shay?” I asked incredulously.
“Cat? What happened?!” Miss Shay panicked, dropping what looked like cartons of leftovers. She rushed over to me, not even glancing at the splattered food on the ground.
I realized my hands were still cupped around my nose. They fell against my sides, and Miss Shay inspected them first, then she looked at my nose.
“It’s not broken,” she said, poking it.
“Um, can you not poke my nose?” I asked nicely.
“Oh!” She poked my nose again. "Yes."
Okay . . .”
“What are you doing here?” Maria sneered.
“I was just going to ask you the same thing,” I replied.
Maria glared at me and started to say something, but Miss Shay cut her off.
“Actually, Sarah and Kevin were originally supposed to come over to the orphanage for supper, but I burnt the food. We decided to come here, and Maria wanted to come . . . So she did,” Miss Shay told me in one breath.
“Oh. Well, this isn’t meant to be taken offensively, but why are they here?” I asked, pointing to Brittney and Tiffany.
“Well,” Kevin said, putting his arms around the two blondes. “Cat, I would like you to meet our daughters.”

“Woah,” Carmen commented after taking a bite of her ice cream.
