This angered Alden a little. Of all the people, it has to be Nikko. How could he not trust him? He went to Bacolod more than a few times, he saw how much respect he has to her. Why he has to ask? He felt insulted. They are talking in front of his mom.
Nikko stop asking questions. His mom was just watching and listening. Good thing she didn't ask. She herself is tired for the day. Almost half an hour later, everyone fell in full, complete silence. Nikko sat down next to Maine's bed. Mrs. Mendoza leaned back to relax more. As of this moment? Alden is way passed asleep. He's tired body is relaxing on the couch. They left him to rest. They both know that he's been here for three days straight, he only leaves to take a shower, change clothes and go to work, then he comes back right after coming out of work. Nikko was thinking of other things that he can help Alden and Maine with, at least with that he can feel a little less guilty.
"Meng, I know you're awake. I saw you." He whispered as he rest his head on her bed. Maine opened her eyes slowly but closed it right away as she heard her mom's foot step getting closer.
"Nikko." His mom whispered as she get closer to him. Maine continue to 'sleep'. "I will leave for a while. I'll be back later, if not, I'll be back tomorrow. Whenever Alden wakes up, will you please drive him to his condo? He is very tired and I don't think it'll be a good idea to let him drive on his own." She said in an almost whisper, trying not to wake both Maine and Alden up. He nodded and kissed her goodbye.
"Who's taking you home?" He asked.
"Nikki is swinging by to get me in five minutes, I'll wait for her in the hospital lobby. Nikko, please don't bother Alden, okay. Let him rest for a while. And when he wakes up, please stop asking personal questions. Whatever they did or didn't do is their business, not yours, you understand? Have a little decency and respect. I'm going now." She then kissed Maine on the side of her head and started heading to the door.
"I promise, Nay, I won't. Tell Nikki to drive safe." He said before his mother disappeared behind the door.
"Meng... " He whispered calling her again. She then opened her eyes and smiled at her kuya.
"Kuya, Is he really telling the truth?" She whispered back holding her brother's hand tight.
"Yes, he is Meng. He never lied to you. He stayed in the island and waited for you. He was hoping you'll be back and he doesn't want to take a chance missing you when you do. They day he found out about the truth, he followed you back here He can't wait to tell you everything the day he came back from Bacolod. Nanay, stopped him because she wants you to learn to sit still and face your problem without us telling you what to do and how to do it. Nanay wants you to stop running away from your problem when it hits you." He explained. Maine saw the love and sadness in her brother's eyes.
"I am not going to hold it against you and Nanay. I was just disappointed that neither one of you let him see me him so he could explain to me. I could have dealt with the situation differently." She expressed in between tears.
"What is there to explain, when he doesn't know a thing up until that day. Don't take it on him." Nikko tried to make light of the conversation. Or maybe he was trying to get Alden off the hook.
"I know. He still owe me an explanation." She replied. Nikko stared at her intently before speaking.
"I'm sorry, Meng. I didn't think clear at first. I let anger get the best of me. I didn't even give him the chance to explain, either. I jumped into conclusion that he did something bad to you and that's why you left him and that's the same reason why I didn't let get near you." He said with tears building up in his eyes. His voice shaking a bit, feeling the guilt of the part he did. He felt guilty for not giving Maine and Alden their time to deal with their problems the way it should be done..
