Im sitting on the oval with Chantelle eating lunch. We've been talking a lot all day and she's actually a really nice girl. She's really genuine and smart.

"I'm just going to get a drink from the canteen. I'll be back in a minute" I smiled to Chantelle as I stood up.

"Okay" she smiled and took a bite out of her sandwich. I smiled and walked off the oval and headed to the canteen. I got in line and waited until it started moving forward.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and I quickly turned around. I came face to face with a boy who has short brown hair and blue eyes. Wow, that is a weird combination. He is actually pretty cute. What is it with this school and having cute guys everywhere?

"Hey, I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?" the boy asked.

"Uh yeah, I just started here today" I smiled shyly.

"I thought so" he smiled.

I nodded my head and looked away awkwardly.

"Oh, how rude of me. My names Julian De Vizio and I'm a senior here" Julian smiled. Nice name, I thought to myself.

"My names Brittney Bell and I'm in year 10" I said.

"Really? You look so much older" he exclaimed.

I chucked to myself. "Thanks I guess".

I turned around and moved up in the line. Julian went to say something to me, but he was stopped by a voice ringing through my ears.

"Julian, leave the poor girl alone" I heard a boys voice say from beside me. I looked to my left and saw Jayden standing beside Julian.

"Sorry Jay, I was just introducing myself to the new girl" Julian defended.

"I hope you're not harrassing her" Jayden asked.

"Im, er, not. I've gotta go. See you around Brittney" Julian smiled at me.

"Yeah sure" I smiled back and moved up in the line.

I felt Jayden looking at me, but I was too scared to look at him.

"I'm sorry about him, he just gets excited when he sees a pretty new girl" Jayden apologised.

Did he just say that I was pretty? Of course he didn't, why would he say that about me, he doesn't even know me.

I faced him and smiled. "That's okay, He wasn't too much trouble" I blushed slightly.

"Good. My names Jayden Sierra by the way" he smiled.

"My names Brittney Bell" I smiled and moved up in line.

"Nice to meet you Brittney" he smiled. I nodded my head and I was now next to order at the window.

"Cool nose ring by the way. It really suits you" Jayden said from beside me.

I reached up and touched my nose ring softly, "Thanks" I smiled and I could feel my cheeks getting warm.

"Well I guess I'll see you around sometime" Jayden smiled and walked away.

"Bye" I said to myself and stepped forward to the window. I bought a bottle of orange juice and walked back out to the oval to Chantelle. I sat back down next to her and we continued our converstion until the bell went for 5th period. We grabbed all our stuff and headed off to English.

"So how was your first day at school?" mum asked as soon as I got in the front door. I dropped my bag next to the door and joined mum on the lounge.

"It was alright. I made a friend. Her names Chantelle" I smiled.

"See, I told you, you would make a friend" she smiled and softly punched my arm. I chuckled to myself and scratched my arm.

Mum and I have gotten really close since dad passed away last summer. She's always there for me and I'm really grateful for that. And then there's my brother, Trent. I haven't mentioned him before, that's because he sits in his room alot and doesn't talk to anyone. Hes 19 and he's finished school. He was pretty wrecked when dad passed away, they were very close. Now, I barely even talk to Trent.

"Did you see any cute guys?" mum winked, which caused me to laugh.

"Mum, that school is full of cute guys!" I laughed.

She laughed with me and i leaned my head on her shoulder.

"Dad would be proud of you for giving this a chance. He would want to see you happy" she said truthfully as she rubbed my arm.

"I know. I just really miss him" I sighed.

"I know, so do I. But he's always here watching over us. And do you know what else he would like to see?" she said looking down at me.

"What?" I asked confused.

"He would like to see you do your homework. Now hop to it" she smiled.

I chuckled and stood up. I walked over to the door and grabbed my bag before heading upstairs to my room.

I sat on my bed and got my Maths homework out that I got first period. Year 10 sucks.

I spent 2 hours doing my homework. I was actually on Facebook for an hour talking to my old friends and my ex boyfriend that I'm still pretty good friends with. And I spent the other hour doing my homework. Mum brought up dinner about half an hour ago, and I'm pretty much ready for bed.

I went for a quick shower and got changed into my pjs. I crawled into bed and laid my head on my comfy blue pillow that I love dearly. And within minutes, I was fast asleep.

So I survived my first day at my new high school. I made a friend and I potentially might have a new crush that already has a girlfriend. Lifes great isnt it? Note the sarcasim in my voice. Hopefully I have more days like today.
