Alice's' POV

Where the hell was William? He had been gone for over an hour now! Worry was like acid in Alice's' chest. Had he gotten bored of her already? Maybe because he'd watched over her all her life, he knew everything there was to know about her. She wished she could call him but she didn't have his number. Hell, she didn't even know if he had a phone! She knew nothing about him besides the fact that he was sweet and warm and gentle without making her feel like she was too strong. She knew she slept well with his arms around her...but there was so much she didn't know! Had he ever been in love before? The thought made Alice uncomfortable. When was he born? Where was he born? What was his human life like?  She wanted to know him like he knew her and since she couldn't stand guard outside his window for nineteen years, talking would have to do.

A thought occurred to Alice. If William could star in her dreams could she reach out to him now? Alice breathed deeply and closed  her eyes, picturing his face.

William? Can you hear me? Alice felt kind of foolish trying to communicate with William telepathically.  She felt even more like a fool when no answer came. Maybe he couldn't read minds. She put the hospital blanket over her head and tried not to scream. She was so stupid! How could he love her?! Her heart thudded in her chest so hard, she feared it would break free of her chest. When Will came back they would talk.  She went to sleep, hoping to see him in a dream.

Alice woke up to the smell of flowers.  Mm. That was nice. She wondered if they were roses.  She bolted upright as she remembered  William hadn't come back yet. And there he was. Will.  His blue eyes alight with emotion. She wasn't sure how she felt about his return. She was  angry with him for making  her worry...and yet seeing him, walking toward her, roses in hand, she just wanted to kiss him. The walk from the door seemed to take him forever. "What no vampire speed," she greeted him.  William laughed,"I'll be there in a minute. Patience please."

Alice scowled but bit back her snappy retort.  William sat next to her, taking her hand. "Is everything okay, Alice? Alice looked at him and almost melted under the tenderness of his gaze. She looked away and said,"You were gone a long time. I didn't know where you were...or if you'd come back." William touched her cheek tenderly. She smacked it away.  "Don't. Don't touch me. You can touch me later, right now I wanna know where you were. I'm sorry but when you touch me, conversation seems stupid. Who needs words when you have hands like that? Right now, I need words."

William sighed and begin to tell her about the meeting with his boss. Alice listened intently. When William had finished, she turned to him.  "I'm slightly confused. Why would he give us permission to be together? Why not just cut you down to size?"

Alice could practically see the cogs in Williams' brain turning. After a minute he spoke,"I honestly have no idea. This is unheard of. Usually a vampire falling for his Person means death." Alice ignored the little flip her stomach did when he said 'falling for', she could celebrate with him later. "Why is it unheard of? I mean....vampires feel...emotion don't they?"  William looked at their hands, entwined on the bed. "That's a compliment question. We do feel emotion but...without humans to...ignite our curiosity...the emotions we feel are very low-key."

Alice's' brow furrowed in thought,"Why does it take a human to...ignite you?"

William smiled,"You're very good at asking complicated questions. I think the answer to that question is multifaceted  First, there's your scent." Alice stomach did another flip as he brought her wrist to his lips. He pressed his lips to her pulse and kissed it. She knew her pulse thrummed, she could hear it in her ears.  William breathed deep,"You smell of excitement, confusion....and...lust? My, my Alice! For someone who wants to talk and who seems infested in this conversation, your scent tells a different story." Alice blushed and shoved him playfully,"Shut up and tell me the rest of the facets!" William laughed, a mischievous light in his eyes,"I can't shut up and speak at once, my feisty little Alice. You have to choose."  Alice rolled her eyes,"I want to talk to you about something other than my desire for you, you...tease."  William  raised an eyebrow but conceded her point. "Fair enough. There's time later for more teasing, as long as that desire is still present. The last facet is your passion for life. The human race starts wars, writes poetry, makes love knowing that their life is going to end. How do you do it?! Why do you do it Alice?"
