I yanked open the car door and got in the passenger's seat, tossing my shoulder bag on my lap. It had been two weeks since I was back in Nebraska and I've been staying in the Paradise Motel with Sam and his friends.
"How did the interview go?" In response I rolled my eyes, "Horrible." He turned towards me with his left forearm against the back of his seat and his right forearm laid along the sterling wheel. "I bet it was fine." I gave him a side eye, "Perhaps..."Sam shook his head at me as he laughed to himself, when I looked at him he started the car and ignored my stares. There was a moment of silence, before he stopped at a light and looked at me. "I had plans to go to Cali but, I think it's best if I stay here... you know watch after you."
He was being sweet which I appreciated, "After I leave then you can go to Cali," he stared at me as the light change, his stare was confused and unsatisfied with m statement. There were honks blaring from behind us, he blinked a few times at me before he realized he had dazed off.I felt the need to continue to stare at him and wonder if he was okay. I hadn't realized I was gawking at him until he mumbled, "You can stop staring." My eyes lowered down at my lap, then I stared out the window.
Sam drove with his hand perched on the wheel, now he seemed downhearted and I desperately wanted to know why. "I didn't mean to upset you." There was a few seconds before he responded, "I'm not upset." He laced his hand heavily on my thigh, as he glared over at me from the road.He took his eyes off the road and stared at me, with a slight smile. I could feel my breathing hitch, my chest rose and remained that way until his touch left my thigh and his eyes focused back on the road.
I felt tense in this moment, yet so fragile by his touch. He made me feel a peculiar mixture of love and excitement that I felt like I couldn't get anywhere else.I stared out the window, "I'm going to visit some friends, you can join me if you like." Sam seemed as if he wanted me to go, either that or he was being funny because last time I complained about constantly staying at the Paradise Motel.
"If you're friends aren't such a pain as you are, then yes I'll tag along." He grinned a little, it was cute and I couldn't help but smile back.♔ ♔ ♔
Sam and I sat outside a light pink house, he hadn't said a word since he turned the ignition off. I sat in the passenger's seat quietly, as he laid his elbow against the window ledge of his door and held his phone to his ear.
We weren't in the best neighborhood, there was trash almost everywhere and people were outside talking and enjoying themselves. Sam was looking out the window, watching the pink house as the person he was trying to contact answered."Hurry up and come out."
I was curious to see what his friend looked like, it made me wonder if he was like Sam or not. There was a few moments of silence before a guy with light blond came out of the front door in black shorts and a green bag in his hand.
Sam laid his forearm against the window ledge as his motioned his hand towards him, "Come on, hurry the hell up." He muttered with a sigh. I didn't know why he was in a rush when just a few minutes ago he didn't seem to be in a hurry. The blond muttered under his breathe something neither of us could hear, as he walked down the pathway leading to the sidewalk. As he approached the driver's side he began to speak, "Don't rush me okay, if you seriously gave a damn about getting your shit you would have been here three days ago like I--" he paused abruptly when he saw me. His expression was blank and when I thought he was going to smile at me, he frowned.
"What is she doing in my seat?" My smile faded and I felt insulted. The blond tossed the green bag through the open window and onto Sam's lap. Sam motioned for his friend to get in, he didn't even pay attention to the fact that his friend was annoyed.
