The darkness comes

"Hurry up guys my final gym battle awaits" an impatient Ash Ketchum yells out as he sprints towards the gates of Snowbelle City leaving the rest of his group behind. Shaking her head and grinning at the young teenagers eagerness Serena Yvonne cries "Wait up Ash" as she starts to run to catch up to him leaving the final two members of their group behind. "Come on Clement" a little blonde girl named Bonnie calls out to her brother Clemont as she to runs after the others "we're getting left behind". "Why do they always run" the last member of the group sighs as he follows after the others at a very slow jog.

As Ash arrives at Snowbelle City all he can think about is beating Wulfuric the gym leader here and gaining the last badge he needs to enter the pokemon league. "Are you ready buddy" Ash asks his companion Pikachu that is perched on its usual spot on his shoulder who replies with an excited "Pika" and thrusts one of its arms up into the air in confidence. " I'm sure you'll win Ash, you always do" Ash hears Serena say behind him as he turns to see the honey blonde girl "Thanks Serena, you've always supported me" he replies with a grin not noticing the blush that appears on her cheeks as he does so. "You're welcome Ash" Serena replies as she turns trying to hide her cheeks from his view "I don't know why I'm doing this, he's to dence to notice anyway" she thinks with a sigh as she sees Bonnie and Clemont enter the city with Clemont as always lagging behind. "Hurry up Clemont" a frustrated Bonnie yells back at her slow brother as she reaches Ash and Serena.

Clemont finally reunites with the group and while still huffing and puffing he follows the others as they make their way to the Gym for Ash's final Kalos gym battle but upon reaching the gym they all let out a cry. "How can the gym be closed, I wanted to have my battle now" Ash says disapointed that he won't be getting his last gym badge today. "Maybe we can explore the city for a while then instead" Serena says hopefully as she starts thinking of all the possible things they could do now "Maybe I'll get some alone time with Ash" she thinks to herself causing herself to start to blush again. "We should get a room at the pokemon center first" Clemont says "it's getting dark already and I don't want to camp outside in this cold weather". Ash looks up at the sky in wonder " Its only 2pm, how is it getting dark already" he asks the others. "We are up in the Northern most point of Kalos, maybe it gets dark earlier here" Clemont replies receiving a shrug of acceptance from Ash "Yeah, that's probably it, lets go to the pokemon centre and get a room" Ash says as he takes one last look at the quickly darking sky.

The group enters the Pokemon centre and quickly approach Nurse Joy "May we have a room for the 4 of us please Nurse Joy" Serena asks kindly and receives a kind nod from the Nurse as she hands the girl a key for the room. "Thanks Nurse Joy the group replies as they head to their room to freshen up and relax after the days adventures. After a few hours and they have all had a shower to freshen up Ash is starting to feel a familiar itch and wants to get on the move to do something again "I wish i could have had my gym battle today but we can't stay here forever and its still early after all" he says as he looks at his watch. "I think I'll stay here and work on some inventions" Clemont answers not looking up from his work station as he fiddles with a small device in his hands. "I still want to go explore the city" Serena replies with a smile as she gets up to stand by Ash at the door " Ok, lets go" Ash says as he looks at Bonnie. "You want to come to Bonnie" he asks inviting the small girl who smiles and gives Serena a wink which goes unnoticed by Ash "No thanks, I'm pretty tired, think I'll just stay here and play with Dedenne". The wink from the small girl makes Serena wonder how much Bonnie actually knows about her crush on the raven haired boy and feels as if somehow she is the one responsible for this turn of events.

"Looks like it's just us again Serena" Ash says happily to her as he grabs Serena's arm and leads her out to the exit of the Pokemon Centre, glad to be on the move once again. Serena on the other hand, still stunned by this turn of events and Ash's sudden act of dragging her has caused her to blush yet again "Hold it together Serena, its not a date, it'll just be like last time when we went shopping for Pokemon gifts" she says to herself as she lets Ash lead her wherever he wants to go. As the duo exit the pokemon centre a feeling of unease overcomes Ash as he again looks up and sees nothing but a black motionless sky "I can't believe how dark the sky is, there isnt even a star or the moon anywhere" Serena says mirroring his thoughts. " I know but as Clemont said its probably just the area we are in" Ash replies trying not to worry Serena with how uneasy this whole thing has actually made him. "You're right Ash" Serena says and starts to smile "besides we are here to explore and have fun arent we" as she pushes Ash playfully and starts to walk towards the town centre.

The feeling of unease that has overcome Ash has slowly been getting worse and as the duo continue there walk he starts to notice a few other people looking and staring at the sky with a look of concern "this isnt a normal night sky here after all" he thinks to himself. Subconsciously as they are walking along Ash puts his hand in Serena's and their fingers intertwine, this action of his goes unnoticed of the boy who is deep in thought but it's a difference case entirely for the honey blonde girl. "Oh arceus, I'm actually holding Ash's hand and he was the one that grabbed my hand first, I'm so happy right now" she thinks to herself as she is lost in this feeling of bliss and not noticing how quiet and distracted the boy beside her is. Ash to suddenly starts to feel a little better after a while and notices that he and Serena are holding hands and the dreamy smile on her face " if it makes her happy, I guess we can stay like this" Ash thinks to himself as they finish their walk to the town centre.

"Ash look at that" Serena cries out excitedly as she is pointing at a little group of shops that lays ahead of them. "Shopping" Ash says worriedly, starting to feel as if he has been tricked into this " you want to go shopping?". Serena quickly notices his reaction but dismisses it as she drags the protesting boy along by the hand that is still holding hers, refusing to ever let it go again "It'll be fun" she says with a smile. Ash notices Serena's smile and a feeling of warmth fills his chest making him feel a little better as he starts to forget about worrying blackness of the night sky that has plagued him so far tonight "Why does holding her hand and seeing her smile, make me feel this way all of a sudden" he wonders as he is still being dragged forward by the excited shopping hungry girl.

After shopping for what seemed like hours to Ash and moving from one shop to another he noticed that every time Serena let go of hand while she changed into a new outfit he would feel colder and empty inside but every time she came back and took his hand again that the feeling went away. Serena on the other hand was having the time of her life, trying on different outfits, asking Ashs opinion of them but most importantly every time she came back he would let her hold her hand again, indeed this night could not have gone better in Serena's opinion. "Thanks for doing this with me Ash, i know it isn't exactly your thing" she says appeeciatively. "You're welcome" he replies with a smile "seeing how happy you've been doing all this is enough for me". Serena smiles at this "that's so like Ash, doing whatever it takes to make others happy" she thinks to herself.

" We better head back, it's getting late" Serena says and receives a nod from Ash as they make there way back outside with Ash looking up at the dark night sky "why is the sky bothering me so much, it's only night time, it'll be morning in a few hours and then all of this will be over" he says to himself. The duo make their way back to the pokemon centre and see that Clemont and Bonnie are already asleep. As they enter their room Serena sadly lets Ash's hand fall away from hers and makes her way to her bed "Good night Ash" Serena says as she gets ready for bed. "Night Serena" he replies as he gets ready for bed himself and notices the now familiar feeling of dread wash over him as he struggles to fall asleep.

"Ash wake up, its breakfast time" he hears Bonnie yell to him as he slowly awakens from his very lackluster night of sleep but quickly gets out of bed at the mention of Breakfast. Ash makes his way to the Pokemon center's kitchen with Bonnie walking beside him and when they arrive at the kitchen they quickly spot Clemont and Serena staring at the television with a concerned look on their faces. "What's the matter guys" he asks them as they turn to him and say " Ash there's a big problem it's all over the tv, the sun its being blocked" Clemont explains "They don't know what's happened, Professor Oak was just on, its world wide he said and they dont know what happened" Serena finishes in a scared voice "Ash what are we going to do???"....
