Everything felt fine, except for my stomach area. Everytime I moved, it was like something was out of place, and it would make a particular sound which cracked a bit. I was laying on a hospital bed with my head and stomach wrapped up in bandages, and everything seemed as if it happened in a blur. I remember the pain I felt as the car rammed into my side. I remember feeling the level of anger as I blacked out and woke up here. Suddenly, I felt a warm tear stroll down my cheek, and then before I knew it more came.
Just a few minutes after that, the door opened. I expected it to be Justin- he was checking in with me every single hour and I was so grateful to have a best friend like him- but no, it was...Vic? He had the most sorry expression on his face and he exhaled, walking over to me slowly.
I looked up at his perfect eyes and I saw his forced smile break, and his eyes seemed as if they were glass waiting to be broken. He kneeled down at the bed area, so our heads were leveled. Another tear went down my face and Vic shook his head, "babe please don't cry...I'm sorry...I'm- I'm so sorry Kellin. I should've been-"
"No," I croaked, as I struggled to sit up, "it's not your fault, don't take this out on yourself, Vic."
He then kissed my cheek softly, "I know, babe, I know. It's that fucking drunk driver," he said coldly, "I'm gonna find him and kill him. It won't be quick either, I'll get a knife and-"
That made me laugh, which hurt a bit but I didn't care. Realizing that I laughed at him, he joined also and as our laughter died down we just looked at each other for a long time as he ran his fingers through my hair. Vic sighed, "I hope you know that up under all these bruises, I still believe that you're the most beautiful person I've ever met."
My cheeks burned of embarrassment and I grinned, turning my face away, "y-you don't mean that..." I trailed off. But he then shook his head, as he took my hand and laced our fingers.
"I'm serious," he spoke. And just as he was about to say something else, the doctor walked right in the room. She was wearing an all white uniform and her dark hair was pulled back. She had hard features and her gaze pierced Vic and I.
She closed the door behind her, "excuse my tardiness, my patient just passed away in the other room," she spoke, as she pulled up a stool and sat at the foot of the hospital bed. Her face was uncertain as she looked from Vic to I.
"So..." she trailed off, peering down at her clipboard, "Kellin, how are you feeling?"
I licked my lip, "well, everything seems fine...just my left ribs still hurt; and I'm really hungry," I chuckled at the last word, and Vic smiled down at me. But as I looked up at the doctor, she gave me a sorry glance, and it was strange, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Right. So, Mr. Bostwick, I have some frightening information about you that needs to be discussed immediately, would you like to have your friend here, to leave the room or do you want me to share it with the both of you?"
I was confused. What was wrong? I shook my head, "no, I rather him stay with me."
She exhaled, looking back down at the papers, "alright. The good news is that your ribcage isn't broken. Your right side is completely fine, where as the left side is slightly fractured. According to the test results, when the car hit you, it had missed your head by only a couple of inches and you landed inward, not outward. You should be in a leg cast for about a month for the bones to heal. And as for your ribs, you need to take it easy...no wild or crazy experiences, alcohol, drugs, none of that. And as for your unfortunate, but extremely rare, questionable news, you are pregnant," the doctor had told me. I blinked twice, as I sat up a bit. There was a brief silence and I wanted to scream, this couldn't be true. It didn't make sense. My eyes were a bit watery but I held in my tears, there had to be a mistake.
"But..." my voice was barely a whisper, "i'm, I'm a guy, how is this possible?" I asked her directly, avoiding Vic's eye contact, I didn't want to see his gaze.
The doctor shrugged, "it is very uncommon, and only happens to a small amount of men, but this type of thing ocours when there isn't enough levels of testosterone being produced, and the levels of estrogen being produced is stronger. With you, that's exactly what happened. Your estrogen levels are very high, causing there to be more Y chromosomes, and they formed eggs in your male uterus. When these eggs were created, your body didn't know how to react, but you had to have had sex with someone in order to fertilize them. You don't just get pregnant on your own, man or female. Who was the last person you had intercourse with?"
I gasped, with my mouth hanging open. There was too much information going into my head at the moment, and I wanted to pull Vics arm to tell him it was oaky, but before I could get the chance to, he glanced down at me, and I watched as our hands left eachothers grasp. He had the most shocked expression on his face, "I- I need space," he spoke, as he walked out of the hospital room.
