They continued their trek through the sandy deserts. The huge hill-like ridge was less then a few yards away. Wells was panting, and gasping for air, clinging onto himself. It was so humid out, they had to tear up some sheets and old clothing to make head-ware to protect the're selves from the suns terrible rays. Wells knew he had gotten sunburn, he never expected it to ever be this painful, his whole neck and back of his hands felt sore from it, and ached with a subtle hint of pain.
"Up ahead." Claudia motioned, breaking into a jog, and running forward.
"W-We can barely walk, yet she's running up there like a roadrunner!" Jaha claimed, huffing for air. Claudia turned around and chuckled.
"Come on slow asses, you guys can make it." She giggled to herself, swiveling back around to continue her jog. Jaha looked very annoyed, but Wells found it amusing, her positiveness fueled the group greatly.
"I am beginning to grow very agitated with her attitude, Wells." Jaha growled, crossing his arms. Wells forwarded his temples and blinked a few times, managing to step over what looked like a rigid rock sticking up from the sand.
"Come on Dad, she's positive. She believes we can actually reach the City Of Light..Maybe if we were more like her, we wouldn't be this negative about things." Wells smiled. His Father snorted, shaking his head.
"Wells, when we set out, we had twelve people. Now all that remains are six. Six left, because they couldn't handle the humid temperature, the scolding sores which stain our ankles, or the limitless trek we're doing right now. Her snazzy attitude wasn't positive enough for them to stay, and it isn't positive enough for me to stay..I'm beginning to think that this is a bad idea." Jaha grimaced. Wells grit his teeth, and lowered his head, feeling quite dumbfounded of his father, and a tad disappointed. If he didn't think he could make this journey, then why did it come? Was it to impress the others that are here? Maybe since he wasn't Chancellor anymore he had nothing else to accomplish or proceed with? Whatever it was, he was convinced the first few moments Wells, Him, and Claudia spoke about back in the Polis towers prison cells.
"Think what you like dad, we are making this..The City Of Light is real, and it's meant for us!" Wells attempted to convince him, but he just eyed him angrily.
"Wells, it may not even be real..I should've known not to come along, I am convinced to easily..it's fake, the commander probably sent us out to our deaths..."
"No, she wouldn't have!" Wells explained. "Her sister is among us, why would she send her own sister to a dire death? I seen the way Claudia speaks about Lexa, Lexa cares for her. Why would she have someone killed she cares about?"
"I don't know, and I don't care...all I'm hoping is that you're right on this, Son.." Jaha said before moving up in the group to the front. Wells sighed, and lingered in the back, near a girl. One with dark black hair and smooth skin.
"Father issues, huh?" The girl asked, tilting her head. Wells nodded, staring at her blankly.
"Yeah..He thinks this is all for nothing, that there is no hope.." Wells sighed, shifting his gaze down at the sand.
"Oh, Well, I believe this is for something..I wouldn't have sided with you against the Grounders leader and followed you all the way out here for no reason, I believe this is our destiny." The girl smiled at Wells, and he smiled back.
"Hey,I don't believe I know your name." He replied.
"Summer. My name's Summer." The girl stuck her hand out, and Wells shook it.
"Summer. What a pleasant name."
"Thank you..My parents named me it because of the seasons, oh how they envied them." She spoke with such prosperity and kindness. Wells enjoyed a sense of manners like that. They soon reached the bottom of the ridge. Claudia was running up the steep slant of it, scurrying all the way up to the top.
"Whoa, you all should see this!" Claudia announced. Everyone else followed her up, Wells even assisted Summer up. They all reached the top. The sunset was gorgeous, it shined on them, its blooming rays beaming on the sweat and sand layering Wells face. They just stared at the sight ahead of them. Wells jaw lowered as he saw it, never seeing anything quite like it before.
"a City...destroyed." Claudia spoke in a docile tone. It was it, New York City. The skyscrapers stood high and damaged, streets were seen covered in layers of sand, the Brooklyn bridge was barely standing, highways was crashed down on the ground, the top of the empire state building was gone, completely ripped off, it was seen in a pile of sand. Small factories and average buildings were seen, demolished and completely destroyed. "I never have been here before." Claudia gulped. "We must go through the city."
"What!? Why not go around?" Jaha asked concerned. "It would be stupid to go through! What if others are already there? Hostiles?"
"Going around it will just waste time..we need to go through..The suns almost fully set, we should rest here and have someone keep watch, and go through the City in the morning.." Not another word was heard. Silence arrived in its most unholy form. Wells stared at the city, boulevards were clashed into another, the right side of the city was engulfed in sand, streets were cracked. It was destroyed. The apocalypse took a real big affect on the earth, and its relics. They finally reached the second step of reaching The City Of Light. trekking through a forgotten city.
