Chapter 16: Remember Me

~Natsu's POV~

The words rung in my head, 'Who are you?' I felt and aching feeling in my chest. Like I had just been stabbed through the heart.

"You're joking, right?" I asked, panic filling my voice.

She shook her head, "I don't know who any of you are..."

I gave her a small nervous laugh, "[Y/n], it's me..! Natsu..!" I begged. "Your Best Friend sense we were little..!"

"I'm sorry... I don't remember... And why do you keep calling me [Y/n]?"

"Don't tell me you don't remember your own name?" Happy asked, flying down into her lap.

She flinched a little, but then loosened up. "I'm afraid not..." She pet his blue fur as he started to tear up. She gave him a sympathetic smile, "But I'm going to go ahead and guess that that's my name,"

"Yeah, it is..." Happy hugged her. "You're still coming back with us, right?"

"I guess, I mean... If you guys say that you're my friends, you guys probably would have the best chance of helping me get my memories back," she smiled.

[E/n] walked up to her, "Do you know what Magic is?" She asked.

[Y/n] shook her head. "Then we have a long ways ahead of us..!" She sighed.

I helped [Y/n] up, and helped walk her out of the basement of the Building. [E/n] flew her the rest of the way to Fairy Tail. Once we got there, [Y/n] claimed that she could stand on her own. But I brought out a wheel-chair for her just in case.

I pushed her around the Guild, having her hang out with everyone in hopes of her remembering something. With no luck, [Y/n] and I sat at on empty table near the back of the Guild. "Still nothing?" I asked.

"No, sorry..."

"Why are you apologizing?" I blurted out.

"Huh?"

"Why are you apologizing? You didn't lose your memories on purpose!"

"Because you seemed upset," she replied. "And I do believe what you said. About me and you being Best Friends. You seem like someone I'd hang out with," she smiled.

Even after losing her memory, she still was really trusting and nice. I smiled back at her. I looked out the windows of the Guild and saw that it was getting pretty late. I stood up with a sigh. "Hey, it's getting late, would you mind if I wheeled you home?"

"Not at all!"

And with that, I grabbed the handles behind the wheel-chair, and started to push her out the doors of the Guild. The sky was lit with orange and pink, making [Y/n] gawk at the scene. I just chuckled at her actions.

"What's so funny?" She smiled at me.

"You just looked cute when you were gawking over the sunset," I said, a small blush making it's way onto my cheeks as I realized what I said.

"Th-Thanks..." she said with an unsure smile, her face turning a light shade of red.

We stayed silent for a few minutes, before [Y/n] spoke up. "Hey Natsu?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks for helping me out today. Y'know, sense I lost me memory," she said with a half smile.

"Of course! That's what friends are for! Especially Best Friends," I smirked and ruffled her hair.

"Hey! Stop!" She laughed, trying to block my hand from messing up her hair even more.

I eventually stopped, and we just ended up laughing the rest of the way. We stopped in front of Lucy's Apartment, when I realized I hadn't told her that she lived with Lucy yet. "Oh yeah, there's one thing I forgot to mention. You live with Lucy and Zuki on the couch,"

"Awesome! Roomies!" She smiled, knocking on the door.

Lucy opened the door. "You're here! And don't worry, Happy and [E/n] are here too," she waved.

Lucy pushed [Y/n] through the doorway, but before she closed the door, [Y/n] turned to face me. "Thanks again, Natsu..!" Then Happy flew out of the Apartment.

"Natsu, is it okay if I stay here tonight? I wanna hang out with [Y/n] a little more..!" He asked.

"Sure! Just don't go to crazy! But make sure to raid the fridge just to make Lucy mad..!" I laughed, whispering the last part.

"Thanks! I'll see you at the Guild tomorrow!" He grinned, shutting the door. I smiled and then left to my house.

*Cue Music*

Once I walked through the door, I melted down onto the floor on my knees, face in my hands, and started to cry. My heart started to pound, pain bursting with every beat.

My head felt like it was being smashed with sledgehammer. And with every breath I took, there was a sob in-between. My eyes were so watery I could barely see my hands in front of my face. These past few weeks have felt like an endless montage of sadness and sorrow.

"Why? Why couldn't she have at least remembered me?!" I shouted, now on my hands and knees. "It isn't fair! This is all my fault! If only I could've been stronger! Then Jintsuo wouldn't have been able to take her and her memories! It's my fault! [Y/n]! I'm sorry!!"

I couldn't help but feel like it was my fault. I was there with her the night she was kidnapped..! And I couldn't do anything about it! Of course [Y/n] would probably disagree... She'd blame herself for being too weak and not paying attention.

But I wasn't going to let her see that I felt this way, it'd only make her feel worse about herself..! And she doesn't even know where she came from!

I picked myself up, not bothering to wipe the tears away, knowing they'd just come back, and walked to my room. I flopped onto my bed and closed m eyes. Trying to clear my mind and fall asleep. All I need right now is a break from all of this pressure...

I finally fell asleep after a few more minutes, drifting into the unconsciousness of sweet relief and where dreams come true. I only hoped it get better from there...
