I can't believe I've been at Crystalview for three weeks now. I've been having too much fun and too much homework to actually pay attention. I wouldn't have even noticed, if wasn't for a lot of people going back to their clan to celebrate the summer solstice this weekend. The summer solstice also happens to be the same day as my birthday.

"C'mon you have to celebrate it. It's a magician tradition," Kara whines as we walk to class. She's been trying to convince me to go home with her to celebrate the solstice. I would have gone if I didn't accidentally read her mind and saw she was planning a surprise party. I don't like parties, especially if it's my birthday party.

"Kara, I told you, I need to catch up on some school work," I lie to her.

She glares at me and shakes her head. "You're lying. I know you're ahead of everybody."

"Well I need to catch up on my extra credit work," I say. She rolls her eyes at me.

"Just let the woman throw you a party," a voice says. I freeze when I hear her. I slowly turn my body towards the woman with a glare. "You only turn seventeen once," Selena adds.

"How the hell did you get in here, Dara," I say. I look to see why people aren't freaking out, but I see the halls were empty. That makes no sense, the hall was just barely full of people, where did they go? I know Kara wouldn't have just left me with her.

"What? Can't a woman give you a birthday present," she asks me with a sheepish smile.

"The last gift you gave me almost killed a kid, so...no."

"Well too bad. You need this." She snaps her fingers and the whole place changes. Instead of being in a hall, I'm in a desert in the middle of the day.

"Where the hell am I," I scream at her. That's when I realize something important. I can't feel the sand on my feet. I can't smell anything either. "You entered my dreams again didn't you."

"Yep," she says smugly. "Now pay attention. Look." She points behind me and I look back. I see a small pond in the middle of the desert, but nothing more.

The swirls from across the pond and a woman then appears. She has long black hair with sky blue eyes. Her skin is sunburned from the intense heat. She has a small belly indicating she's a few months pregnant. She has a lot of damage on her skin like bruises, scars, and cuts all over her.

When she sees the pond, relief fills her eyes and she runs to it. She grabs some of the water and drinks it. She gets into the water and pours the water all over her. She laughs loudly as she dances in the water. I start to notice that all the damage on her body were starting to disappear, her bruises, cuts, and her sunburn.

All her happiness gets cut short by a person's voice. "Miranda," the voice says. She freezes mid dance. She slowly turns to face the voice and it's an Indian guy with a wand pointed at her. "You are coming with me," he orders.

The woman, Miranda, shakes her head. Tears fall from her face as she rubs her belly. "No, no, no," she sobs out. "I'm not letting you kill him."

"Miranda we have no choice. It's either us or him," the guy says.

"No Rashid. He's our son. How can you be so cruel," she screams.

"Miranda I love him, but this is all we got," the guy cries. His hand trembles as he points the wand at her. I can see he doesn't want to do it, but that doesn't mean he won't.

"Then you'll have to kill me," she says to him.

"I don't have to," he says. He lowers his wand a little and says, "muerkato," a beam of light shoots out of his wand and goes for her stomach.
