I was surprised at how quickly Spencer and I bonded. I began to pick up on things I hadn't noticed before. The way she chewed on her bottom lip when she was concentrating on something, or how she crinkled her nose up when she laughed.
I particularly grew to love her eyes. They were a magnificent clear blue, as if you were looking at the shallow waters of the ocean. You could tell exactly how she was feeling just by the way her eyes looked.
Just three weeks after meeting her for the first time, I already considered her one of my best friends.
Spencer turned out to be quite terrible at history, and I was horrible at art. I offered to tutor her in history if she would help me out on my project.
On our first study session, all we did was work. We got a lot done, but I didn't feel like I accomplished anything. For being such a good friend, I knew nothing about her.
The next week, when she came over, I had a piece of paper in her spot at my kitchen table.
"What's this?" She asked, picking it up. Reading it over, she smirked. "Are you interviewing me?"
I shrugged. "I suppose so. I don't really know much about you."
Spencer sat down and read over the questions again. She slid the paper across the table and smiled. "Ask away."
"We can start easy. What's your favorite color?"
"Brown."
I blinked. "Brown?"
"Brown," she repeated.
"That's a disgusting color."
Spencer laughed, and I smilies as I always did. She had such a contagious laugh. "It's not gross. It reminds me of running in the mud, and hot chocolate, and warm blankets on rainy days."
"It's still gross."
She rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah? what's your favorite color then?"
"Green."
"That's a disgusting color," she said smirking.
"I don't like your attitude," I retorted, laughing as she reached across the table to hit my arm.
"Shut up, Chandler."
I took a sip of my coke before reading the next question.
"Favorite band?"
"Just one?" I nodded. Spencer sighed and turned her attention to her hands as she thought. She twisted the little silver ring around her pinky back and forth. "I can't decide."
"Okay, top three."
"My Chemical Romance, Pierce the Veil, Fall Out Boy."
"I saw My Chem in concert last summer."
"No way."
"Yes way."
Spencer played with the ends of her hair. "Lucky you. Next question?"
And it went on for another hour. After hearing a ridiculous story about having to take one of her classmates to the nurse in kindergarten after she peed on the floor to piss off the teacher, Spencer stood up.
"I should get going," she said, still giggling.
I wiped my eyes. "Alright. One more question?"
Spencer nodded. "As long as it's quick."
"What has been the happiest moment of your life so far?"
Spencer thought for a minute. She chewed on her bottom lip, which was chapped from the changing weather.
