"Morning babe." I rolled over to face Luke as he spoke in a groggy morning voice and rubbed his tired eyes. My bare skin was covered by only a light sheet and the boiling morning sun made beads of sweat drip down my back. Pulling the sheet up to cover my chest, I sat up and kneaded the back of my neck with my fingers. Damn, sleeping in a truck wasn't all it's cracked up to be. Around me I could hear the crickets talk to each other and the birds sing in harmony as they danced among the trees.
Quickly grabbing my clothes from the bottom of the truck, I jumped out and onto the fresh grass; leaving Luke with nothing on and a lot to the imagination. He laughed, completely un-bothered by his sudden nudity, as I turned around with a red face and pulled on my clothes and then flung the sheet back over him. I took my toothbrush and toothpaste to brush my teeth with and then spat it out over the side of the mountain, then when I came back from the edge Luke was spitting out his over the edge of the truck. Slightly gross, but at least he'd managed to pull a pair of black, cotton shorts on.
"How 'bout some breakfast?" He asked and hauled the basket in beside us. Luke produced two bowls, two spoons, some cereal and a small carton of milk which had clearly been in the cool box at the bottom next to the beers.
"I could eat." He handed me my breakfast and we sat peacefully with our legs swinging over the edge of the truck as we slurped on cereal. Last night had been, well let me just let you to think about it yourself. It was love, that's all I'm saying.
Luke clattered his empty bowl back into the picnic basket and climbed out the truck. A few moments later after slamming one of the door shut, he appeared with his guitar and and sat facing, leaning against the side of the truck, and began to play as I threw my bowl in beside his. The sweet bliss that was Luke's harmonious voice sailed through the air and I closed my eyes as he strummed along on his guitar.
Now we're stuck in the middle of nowhere
Yeah, you know we took our time to get there
We're hiding out in a dream
Catching fire like kerosene
And you know I'd never let you down
'Til the sun comes up, we can own this town
Something like make-believe
Living in a movie sceneWe know this is the way it's supposed to be
So we're taking the long way home
'Cause I don't wanna be wasting my time alone
I wanna get lost and drive forever with you
Talking about nothing, yeah, whatever, baby
So we're taking the long way homeRattling his pic off the guitar he rounded of the song with a few reckless strums and then hit his hand off the guitar before looking up and grinning at me, looking rather proud of himself.
"You missed a verse." I stated deadpan and he looked at me in disbelief.
"I single-handedely just serenaded you with a private concert and you judge me? Pfft." He screwed up his face and acted offended. "But I'm impressed you know the song."
"Why are you surprised?"
"I didn't know you were a fan."
"Babe, I'm you're number one fan." A loving smile grew across his face and he pushed his guitar to the side before grabbing my outstretched ankles and pulling me towards him as I squealed. I ended up laying down flat on my back and he hovered above me. I intended to say something else but he rested a hand on either side of my face and covered my neck in kiss.
"If you give me a hickey, you're dead." I stated but he just laughed and carried on. Fucking dick. He trailed his kisses up to my jaw, then found my lips and grabbed onto my waist with his write hand. The butterflies in my stomach fluttered as he deepened the kiss and I pulled him closer, wanting him more and more with every touch. After a few minutes of full on making out he collapsed beside me and we both lay completely breathless.
