Slamming the door shut, my little car rattled and the noise echoed throughout the neighbourhood. Looking across at the neighbours house, the curtains where quickly pulled shut as someone nosy person backed away from the window. Marching up the driveway, I was the definition of rage as I shoved open the door and stormed into the house, startling my mother as she stood in the kitchen.

Looking up from where I was stood in the hall, the noise of my fathers footsteps came padding down the cream, carpeted stairs. To say he was a little shell shocked to see me was an understatement.

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" I yelled, lunging forward and sticking my face close to his.

"Don't you dare come into my house swearing and shouting like that young lady. You where raised with manners." His face became scarlet red as the anger within him bubbled to the surface and began to overflow.

"I was also raised to never turn my back on my family. So don't pull that hypocritical shit on me." My brother appeared at the top of the stairs. Riley was nowhere to be seen.

"Mila, honey, please." My mother placed a gentle hand on my left shoulder and gave me a pleading look. I quickly shrugged her off and turned back around.

"And I was also raised to sort out my problems face to face. Maybe you should take your own advice?" I hissed at him through gritted teeth.

"You're a spoilt brat Mila. I told you not to come here. So unless you are here to tell me that blithering idiot is out of your life and you're ready to apologise, I suggest you leave."

"Why should she apologise, you're in the wrong." The three of us looked up at the top of the stairs where Matiás was standing with a blank expression in his face.

"Matiás, go upstairs." My father warned, trying to keep his cool but his voice wobbling slightly.

"Why?" He asked. Sometimes I fucking loved Matiás.

"Because I told you to."

"No."

"Mila, I think you should go?" My mother suggested gently. I glared at her.

"You two really need to sort out your priorities." I spat at them, my voice laced with bitterness.

"I'm coming as well." Matiás piped up and I looked up at him. "I'm coming with you, Mila."

"Don't be stupid Matiás." My father grumbled; clearly his nose being put out of joint at his sons sudden defiance.

"I hate it here, I'm going with my sister." He stated and ran towards his room. A few seconds later he arrived back with a ready packed rucksack and a pair of dirty converse in hand.

"Matiás, I don't have time for this shit." Something snapped inside Matiás as my father said this.

"When do you ever have time? When do you ever care about what we really want? Mila loves Luke, so I don't understand why she can't be with him? I hate living here. You're making me cut my own sister out when she's the most positive influence in my life. Why are you making me choose between both my sisters because you don't like one of their boyfriends?" He was out of breath by the time he was finished but the point was definitely across. Running down the stairs, he latched onto me and I wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "I'm going with Mila."

I had never known my brother to be volatile before, but then again I'd never known my father to be this resentful either.

"For fucks sake." My father cursed, throwing his hands into the air and then rubbing his eyes in frustration.

"Just let him go." My mother replied quietly.

Matiás yanked me towards the door and I stumbled along behind him as he opened it and ran out to the car. I unlocked the car and he jumped inside.

I turned to my parents who where standing at the front door, holding onto each other.

"Don't worry, I'll look after him." I made sure to still sound blunt but they still needed reassurance; after all, Matiás was still only young. And his safety, as his older sister, was my main priority.

By the time I reached the car and slumber inside, they had gone from the doorway and all that was left was a locked door and a little bit of heartache. Turning my head away, my stomach churned as I started the car and drove off.

There was no traffic as it wasn't even rush hour yet but there was one thing; my stomach was growling like a territorial dog. Once we reached the city, I pulled into the lane that headed for the retail park and found us a space outside McDonalds. Any problem can be solved with a few chicken nuggets and a McFlurry.
Matiás' face lit up when he seen where we were heading and when it came to ordered be decided on the biggest , most superior, deluxe burger he could think of with a large fries and a large Diet Coke; no problem Matiás, I'll just take out a bank loan to pay for your meal.

We sat in a booth next to a window in silence as we devoured our meal and watched people passing by.

"Holy shit, it's Selena Sanderson." I whispered to my brother, leaning closer.

"Who the fuck is that?" He replied. I'm glad to see we've both got brilliant vocabularies.

"This little bitch who would bully me in high school when we first moved." I made sure she didn't realise we were talking about her by keeping my voice below a whisper. "She looks exactly the same."
Selena Sanderson was that girl who would laugh at you as you got changed in gym class or whisper at her friends whilst looking round to you, because she knew she was making you paranoid. She'd made me terrified to go into History class.

"Mila, what are we going to do?" Matiás asked me, sipping on his Diet Coke.

"I have no idea Matty, no idea. I just want us to go back to being a family again. Maybe if I was to just break up with Luke, everything would be much more simple. I love him but no one is worth losing your family over. No one is worth losing you over." I sighed. The only way to describe how I was feeling was conflicted. I wanted Luke, more than I had ever wanted anyone before; but I wanted my family as well, to be as close as we once were, when I could go to them for anything knowing they would never turn me away.

"But you love him? If you love someone, you shouldn't let them go." Matiás replied.

When did my fourteen year old brother get so wise?
