As the years past, they grew closer and closer. Kailani was now fluent in English and Finnick was almost done learning and doing great. Now Finnick is 21 and Kailani is turning 21 today. Ever since Finnick's family passed, they spent their birthday with Mags and would go to the beach for a bonfire. Today Mags said she would stay with Annie who had recently won the games. They all promised to care for Annie, for the games had literally drove her crazy.

The former victors hated mentoring for the games but it brought them even closer throughout the years. Finnick and Kailani knew that the connection they had should be labeled more than best friends; but Kailani was scared to admit she felt something different and so was he. Her doubt for him not feeling the same was because Finnick was a flirt. She always saw him with other women in the capital, making their whole face turn red. Even faint at times. It hurt her, but little did she know, it was the same for Finnick.

Kailani also had the composure of being sexy, mysterious and confident. She turned heads wherever she went and people would always make moves on her. She is a beautiful woman that was a flame in the darkness. He felt like a firefly compared to her sun. Finnick felt he would never be able to gain her love and doubted that he was ever enough for her. No matter how much the man knew he loved her.

Love is weird.

Lately Kai has been noticing Finnick's... attraction towards Annie. She thought she would be ok with it but something inside her is telling her otherwise. It started off with him caring for her, just like they promised they would. But then he started saying, " Its alright Mags I can take care of her. You relax."  and saying the same to her. Its like Finnick wanted to be with her every moment of everyday. And the truth was, he did.

Kailani was slowly becoming the person in the background, barely noticeable, and it was slowly breaking her heart. She loved Finnick. With everything she was and she could've sworn he felt the same with the way his eyes lit up when they landed on her. But the way Finnick was starting to slowly love Annie made her heart weep. Kailani wasn't stupid, she knew the look in his eyes meant he was falling for this new victor of district four. To add to the conflict, Finnick had been leaving to the capital numerous times after his family's death. Sometimes not coming back for weeks. When he did come back it seemed like he was always with the other victors but her. Have I finally disappeared from his life?

They had an argument a month ago when he decided to talk to her after so long. He said he wasn't going to meet her at the beach when he came back from the capital; to spend their birthday together. He wanted to spend the day with Annie after Kai wouldn't see him in almost a month, excluding all the other ones he had been ignoring her for. Man, did that do it for her. After some arguing, Kai finally let it slip.

"Kai why are you being so selfish! By the time I get back from the capital Annie might go crazy again. She needs me!"

"And I don't need you?" Kai softly whispered, after they had been yelling at each other the whole time. This made Finnick silent, watching as a tear rolled down her cheek.

"I thought you loved me Finnick. I know I do.... I fell so hard for you, I really did. And don't even try to deny that connection between us because a person within a miles radius could feel it." She paused, still speaking calmly." God I feel so stupid. You're right maybe I'm being selfish but you've been a horrible person to me these past months. Ignoring me but always being with Mags and.. and Annie. Not even saying Hello to me. Do you know how much it hurts? For the person you were in love with, suddenly drop you like you were nothing?"

She sobbed at the end making Finnicks heart clench. She loves me? After all this time that ive loved her and finally decided to try to move on from the beautiful woman in front of me, she confesses. He took a step towards her, trying to touch her but she backed away, looking into his green eyes.
