He and She

Part 11

When all the victors had calmed down for the night and the capital was partying, District four's victors were quiet. Finnick was in his room, staring out the window at nothing in particular. His thoughts consumed his mind just like Kailani's. She had been sitting on the shower floor, holding her knees to her chest while the hot water ran down her body. She had been in there for more than an hour but no one had interrupted her yet.So, Finnick went to the door when she had been in there for two hours, only to stop in his tracks right at the door. He heard her crying, sobbing loudly with the shower as background noise. He tried entering the bathroom only to find that she locked the door.

"Kailani. Love, please come out." Finnick pleaded as his own tears swelled in his eyes. He hated it when she cried. It made him mad that he couldn't save her from that emotion that overwhelmed her rarely. He heard the shower stop and before he knew it Kailani opened the door, wrapped in a robe with red eyes to match her wet hair.

"Finnick somethings wrong." She sobbed. "I think I know what it is but I don't want to believe it. I cant." She latched onto him immediately and held him tightly. Finnick was tremendously confused but held his trembling fiancé. Letting her cry it all out before he asked,

"What are you talking about?"

"When Snow announced the games we were devastated so I didn't even think about the signs. The next early morning I woke up from a nightmare and was sick to my stomach. I didn't want to wake you up so I went to the downstairs bathroom and let it all out. I thought it was because of the games cause I was sick the next few days at random times. But now I know it's not because of the fear and anxiety."

Since he still looked confused, the red head made him sit on the bed and she sat next to him. Holding his warm hand, she said,"I'm pregnant Finnick."

Silence....

No sound.... everything seemed to stop, like the whole world heard her...

The quietness spoke volumes in her room as they stared at the wall.

Slowly, tears rolled down his face and Kailani began to sob into her hands again.
".... When..." Finnick tried to say. His mind was yelling at him with different thoughts. He barely understood what she said.

" Just because it was the first time doesn't mean I can't get pregnant. God we're so stupid. We didn't even think of the end result. " She recalled that night Finnick made her his fiancé. They had made love for the first time, without thinking the quarter quell could happen. They were caught up in their happiness like anyone else would be.

"Its not going to survive Finnick. I'm going to make our baby die in the arena. The place I wanted to keep our future children away from." She cried with a loud sob following.

"No."

"No?" She said confused.

"Our baby wont... it wont.." He couldn't even say the words himself. "I'll be back."

He kissed her briefly and with that he left the room. Kailani looked at the empty space where Finnick once was before staring at her belly. Before her insecurities and negative thoughts could corrupt her mind even further from Finnick's hasty departure, she decided to speak her mind.

"Mommy is so sorry. I wanted to bring you into a better world but now you wont be able to see me or your dad. But don't worry because we love you and I know you will be taken care of when you leave us. You'll have a much better life there, I promise." She rubbed her belly as she paced in front of the bed. She didn't care if she looked crazy, she wanted her baby to know she loved them, even if they couldn't really understand anything at this time. After that she said her prayers to the moon and decided to change into some comfortable clothes to distract her.
