"Feeling better, Page?" A voice mutters. I see Nick stand and slowly walk towards my bed out the corner of my eye.
"Yes, I do actually. What happened?" I stared at him, waiting for everything to come out and my blackouts to make sense. Both of them. Just one word actually got spoke.
"Lots"
I stare at him, frustrated he won't tell me even if he is being so strangely nice to me. "Expand please?" I half-demand half-ask. He pulls up a chair and sits down. I decide to slide up into a seated position too. He stops half-sigh and a weak laugh escapes his lips. "Glad I could make you laugh, before it gets serious." I reply to his weak laugh. He smiles weakly.
"It's complex, so glad you decided to get comfy without me saying" he sighs. I stop smiling at the sigh.
"You okay?" I ask, hoping he says no, but deep down, hoping he says yes.
"I'll be fine" He frowns, more to himself than me. "Let's start?" He asks. I nod in silence. "So, your mission, you already know, right?" I nod. "So my mission was to stop you. And that's what you remember, right? Me punching you and knocking you out." I sit in silence, soaking in the information slowly. Nick continues. "It's the only thing I could do to prevent killing you. Knocking you out and bringing you here. I didn't want to kill, just prevent, just as the loop says." He pauses, trying to compute my expressions. I show none. He sighs. "It's weird, I had my gun just for that reason, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. To kill my friend, even if it has past." He drops his head and runs his hands through his hair. Then he flips his head back up in one swift motion, looking at the corner of the room. "I wasn't exactly told to kill you, but the boss gave me the gun, and you are part of an opponent organisation, so I figured he wanted blood. I just couldn't." He turns to face me, his emerald green eyes seeming to beg for forgiveness. There is a long silence. Nick gets up and goes to leave the room. I grab his arm just as he reaches for the door handle.
"Nick." I practically whisper, my throat was sore, but that wasn't what I stopped him for. I cleared my throat. He looked at me. Here was the chance I got. "Nick, Thank you. Since we split ways I had to forget about our friendship, and it was so hard for me. I hoped to never see you again, only for the sake of our lives, so we weren't pained. But I was pained, every day I didn't have my best friend at my side, to fight crime with me, to tease me, to bring me down to Earth. To protect and to protect me. To save the world together, as we always said we would." I stopped, and we stared into each other's eyes. I could hear us breathing in sync once again, like we always used to. (I know it's creepy!) I let go of Nick's arm and we embraced each other in the biggest hug ever. It felt good to hug my best friend once more. I teared up at the memories. Nick pulled away after what felt like an hour. He looked me in the face, as if to sear every single one of my features into his brain forever. He pulled me back into a quick hug.
"I love you." I heard the whisper. It was meant for just Nick to hear, but I heard it. He pulled away and turned to walk out the door. "I'll be back later, Page" He stated, becoming serious again. "Business meetings wait for no one!" He joked before walking out. I stared at the door long after he left. Just five words escape my lips before I fall asleep.
"I love you too, Nick"
