I tapped my foot on the ground nervously.

Next to me stood Trey, who was occupied with his phone, one hand in his coat pocket and the other turning blue. With every breath of air I let out, a little cloud would form in front of my face. I could feel my eyes watering slightly from the bitter cold. My cheeks were probably bright pink and my nose most likely resembled Rudolph the reindeer. It was freezing outside. And Trey's parents were late.

"Would you stop tapping your foot? You're making me anxious," Trey snapped.

"You?! Why would you have any reason to be nervous?!" I exclaimed.

"What if they don't like you?" he asked innocently.

"Well, honestly, I think that's more for me to worry about than you," I retorted. He shook his head.

"No, because if they don't like you, it'll be harder for me because obviously I can't let you go. And I can't not listen to my parents. I'll be conflicted," he said. I felt my lips turn up at the corners at his silly thought and reached up to kiss him gently on the lips. Just as I was about to do this, however, we heard a loud POP.

I screamed in surprise and nearly toppled over when I saw two adults standing in front of us.

"So sorry we're late. You're mother here just had to wear her checked scarf that she misplaced," the man said. He was tall with broad shoulders and wavy dark hair and sparkling green eyes.

"It's chilly outside!" the woman exclaimed. She was also tall with dark hair and amber brown eyes.

"Hello, Mum and Dad," Trey said, stepping up to them.

"Hello, dear!" Trey's mother said, pulling him into a hug. I saw Trey roll his eyes.

"Sorry to give you such a fright. You must be Caley," Trey's father said, holding his hand out to me.

"My Lord. She is even prettier than you described her to be, Trey," his mother said.

"Mum!" Trey exclaimed, his cheeks reddening slightly.

"I must agree. You said she was beautiful, but I didn't imagine her to be this beautiful," his father agreed.

"Dad!" Trey said, avoiding my gaze. I laughed.

"It's nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Vulcan," I said.

"Oh, what a sweet and beautiful girl! We're so glad to have you stay in our home for the holidays," his mother said. "I'm Natalia, by the way. And this is my husband Christopher," she added. I smiled and held my hand out for her to shake it. Instead, she pulled me into a tight embrace.

"Oh my God..." I heard Trey mutter, clearly horrified.

"We promised your father we would take good care of you and we like to think of ourselves as people of our word," Trey's father said.

"Like the time you promised to buy me a car?" Trey asked.

"Hush your tone, Trey," Natalia scolded kindly.

"We should get going. I'm sure we don't want the kids to be standing out here in the cold all day. We can get further acquainted at home," Christopher suggested.

"You're quite right. I'll take the kids and you take their bags," Natalia said.

"Take?" I asked.

"We're Transporting, love," Natalia replied, taking hold of mine and Trey's arms and pulling us close.

"Transport-" I began before I felt a great pulling and suctioning sensation.

For a moment, I felt like I couldn't breathe. I felt as if I were moving through a warped tunnel. There were bright lights and blurred images whirring by me and I felt my lungs become constricted. And then, just as quickly as it started, it was over. My legs felt unstable as they hit hard ground. If it weren't for Trey's mother gripping my arm, I would have fallen over.
