Surprise!

Demitri's POV

The Blood Moon pack.

Tonight, they were all going to die.

Alpha, we're in position.  Ready for your signal.

Although it's considered dishonorable to attack at night, I know it has to be done.  Surprise is all we have.  Yes, my warriors are strong, but Elijah and Nadia's reputation for bloodshed and violence is well-known.

Kill or be killed.  Tonight, we would be one or the other.

My wolf is restless, pacing back and forth in my mind.  He's been this way all night.  But my questions have gone unanswered, so I ignore him instead.

Good.  On 3.

MOVE

Given Blood Moon's tight patrol, we only have a small window of opportunity, and I'm not going to waste it.  We need the element of surprise on our side.

Time starts running out the moment we cross the border.  I can feel it weighing upon me; yet, the thrill of an upcoming fight makes my blood race in my veins.

Faster!  I command my warriors.  If we want to have any kind of upper hand, we need to be quicker.

Sooner than I'd hoped, the sound of a warning howl pierces through the silent night.

Shit, they know we're here.

Undaunted, I lead my wolves forward, crashing through the dense forest with a snarl.

Upon reaching a large clearing, we clash against an already awaiting line of warriors.  I had to give it to them, they were more than prepared for an attack.  But we would still have their throats for what they've done.  Even if I have to rip each one out on my own.

The sound of chaos breaks out as our lines meet with a roar.  Wolves are quickly tearing, biting, and snarling at each other.  My beta becomes lost in the fray as a grey wolf snaps at my left flank.  We circle each other for several moments, sizing each other up, but I already know it's no match against me.  I charge for it, but get knocked to the side by another wolf out of my view.  It's my delta.

I have this one.

His head dips as the two snarl at each other, and I move further into the battle field.

My wolf's uncharacteristic agitation rises again, nearly distracting me as I dodge a snarling maw.

Get it together will you!  If you haven't noticed, there is a battle happening!  I yell at him, dodging another swipe at my underbelly.

Something isn't right, I need to know what it is.  He bites back with a growl.

Well your lack of focus is going to get us both killed!

He grumbles what sounds like few choice words before retreating in my mind.

A light blonde wolf steps into my path, snarling a warning.

Dark anger coils in my chest, his fur reminds me of the pup we laid to rest earlier in the week.  He was only 12, newly turned.  There hadn't been enough of him left to properly burn, and the way his mother screamed when the flames covered him has haunted me ever since.

Tonight, you will die.  That's a promise.

He comes after me in a flash, aiming for my throat, but I step out of the way and sink my teeth into his muscled shoulder, tearing at it as I pull away.
