Demitri groans, resting his forehead back against my own.
"Seriously?" He asks in exasperation.
I laugh lightly, pushing him away.
"Go get it," I say firmly.
He looks at me with a horrified expression.
"I'm not a dog!" He protests, but his eyes are filled with amusement.
"I know you're not. Now go get it!" I say, using my best pet owner voice.
He groans again, muttering words I can't hear under his breath as he trudges to the desk where the phone still rings.
"Heard that," I say in a singsong voice.
His head snaps up at me, a fearful expression in place.
"I'm kidding," I say with a laugh, relieving him.
"Goddess woman, you'll be the death of me." He jokes, bringing the phone to his ear. "Alpha of the Dark Night pack." He blankly, his voice void of all previous humor.
"WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL US MY BABY SISTER WAS IN A COMA?" A familiar voice roars, making Demitri flinch.
It's so loud, I hear it clearly from across the room.
"How did you even find that out?" He asks sullenly.
I rush to Demitri's side, grabbing the phone from his hand.
"Eli?" I call softly.
My heart tugs in my chest at the thought of my family.
"Ara! Are you okay? What did he do to you?" He fires off.
It feels so good to hear his voice again.
"Calm down, Eli. I'm okay. It wasn't his fault," I say, looking at my mate. He gives me a sheepish smile. "I saved a boy from being attacked. That's why I was in a coma." I finish, nervous for his reply. There's no denying that Eli is an overprotective wolf when it comes to me.
"An adult?"
"An adult." I verify.
"You took on an adult wolf? By yourself?" Eli questions in disbelief.
I can picture his expression perfectly in my mind.
"Yes..." I reply hesitantly.
"Did you stop it?" He asks stupidly.
"Yes, she killed it." Demitri says proudly, after snatching the phone from my hands.
"Hey!" I cry while reaching for it, but he holds it out of my grasp.
"YOU! Don't think you're getting off the hook just yet!" Eli barks.
"Eli, stop yelling into the phone!" Comes my mom's soft voice through the receiver.
I snatch the phone back from Demitri, who is too busy chuckling at my mother's scolding to notice.
"Eli, let me talk to mom." I demand.
"Wow, no time for your big brother anymore huh?" He asks sarcastically.
"Eli..." I warn lowly.
"Alright alright," he laughs. "I'm glad to know Dark Night hasn't taken that stick out of your butt."
I begin to berate him but my mother's soft voice echoes through the line, stopping me.
"Ara." She calls softly.
