Demitri's POV (cont.)
I storm towards him again, intending to teach this pup a much needed lesson.
A startled cry breaks through my angry haze. Her sweet scent envelopes me as she whizzes past in a blur of red.
I frown as she passes me to run to him.
"Myles!" Her tempting voice cries.
As she gets closer to him, I begin shaking with rage.
The bane of my existence is now in front of me, blocking my path to my mate like the overprotective idiot he is.
As I open my mouth to tell him to threaten him, he speaks up.
"Ara don't." Elijah warns from over his shoulder.
Shoving past the now growling idiot, I see that she is frozen only steps away from him, her hand outstretched as though she meant to touch him.
"I'm fine. Just a few broken ribs." He groans, picking himself up. There's a large dent in the brick behind him from the impact.
I smile, satisfied.
Still ignoring me, she remains focused on him.
"Are you okay?" Her voice is low, almost hesitant, but I can detect the anger there as well.
He smiles down at her, now standing.
"I'm good. Your mate there has a pretty nasty shove though." He jokes, tightly smiling at me.
I only glare back at him.
"Yes, and it's best that you remember it." I warn. "Are you ready to go Ara?" I question as calmly as I can given recent events. Her name sounds lovely on my tongue.
She turns, finally gracing me with a view of her face.
She looks startled, her green eyes wide, cheeks flushed, and red lips parted in surprise.
It takes everything in me not to fall to my knees and worship her right there. If she's a witch, I never want to fall from under her spell.
In the blink of an eye, her expression shutters.
I fight against the urge to fall at her feet.
The things I would do for her smile.
That thought catches me off guard, and I'm smiling before I can stop myself.
The mask wavers, and she looks at me quizzically for a moment before it's back in place.
I don't miss the increase of her heart rate though. I find satisfaction in the fact that every male here can hear it too.
I smirk, taking a step back to show her I don't intend on causing another fight. Though I will, if needed.
I repeat my earlier question.
"Are you ready to go, Ara?"
I don't miss the faint blush on her face as she turns away with a small, affirming nod.
I observe as she hugs her parents, but tune out their words, not wanting to think about how I'm taking her away from her family.
What the hell? Since when do I care?
She moves on to her imbecile of a brother, hugging him for much longer than I would've allowed if he wasn't her brother.
Now I'm jealous of her brother. I must be losing my mind.
He whispers into her ear during their hug. I think I hear the words "kick his ass" but I'm not certain. It wouldn't surprise me though, and I would love to see her try.
