Without another thought, I jump from the trees, landing in a crouch on the ground.
"Ah, there she is." His nasty voice comments in satisfaction.
I bite down a growl, and straighten up.
"I heard you were looking for me." I say nonchalantly.
"So I was. It's time for you to go bye bye, little darling." He says in a silky tone, but all I hear is malice beneath it.
"You're crazy as hell if you think you can take me down without a fight." I warn.
He lifts one coppery, condescending eyebrow.
"You? Fight me?" A bark of sharp laughter rings across the field, and his minions holding Eli and Demitri join in. Once he calms down, he shoots me an annoyed look.
"Listen girlie, are you done stalling? It's time to fight, while your little mate here and your brother watch me kill you." He says.
This is what The Moon prepared me for.
I take off my cloak, letting it fall to the ground as I walk forward.
"Ara, no!" Demitri shouts, but he's cut off by a strike across the face. His head snaps back into place, and he spits out blood.
I take a look around the field, memorizing the faces of the people I know and love. The Moon didn't guarantee that I would make it out of this alive, and I want my last few moments to be good ones.
Toward the south end are Samuel and Freya. They fight back to back, and I catch the smile she throws over her shoulder at him. Not too far from them is Myles. He quickly tears down a wolf who creeps up on Shauna. She and Theo are still partnered together, taking down wolves one by one. Closer to the middle is Cara as she bites the flank of a grey wolf.
And finally, my eyes settle onto the two boys I love most in the world. Demitri and Eli. They still struggle with their restraints, even though it's a losing battle as dark lines creep over their skin, affected by the silver. Eli, my brother who believed in me when no one else did, and took it upon himself to train me. And Demitri, my mate who I've spent too little time with. We promised each other forever, but I'm not sure we're going to get it after tonight.
I stop walking 15 feet away from the copper-haired man.
He still smiles condescendingly at me, but I'm not shaken.
This is my destiny, and I won't be afraid.
I look up, and glance at The Moon as it shines upon me. Tonight, his reign of terror ends.
I am with you.
"Ready to die, girl?" He asks, venom coating his words.
"No, but tonight is your last." I promise.
He shifts with a snarl, heading for me straight on.
I let him get within feet of me before dodging his attack, repeating the move I used on Demitri earlier as I slide underneath him and yank on his tail relentlessly. He howls in pain, and I launch myself onto his back, bringing a dagger up to his neck, but he shakes me off easily and I land several feet away. I roll on the ground, ignoring the dull pain in my side as I gain my bearings. Everything has prepared me for this.
His victorious snarl has me back up on my feet in an instant. There's a pain in my left side, but I shake it off, knowing it'll heal in a few minutes.
I crouch low to the ground, preparing to attack first this time.
He sees this, but doesn't let me have my way as he charges forward yet again. I wait until I can feel his horrid breath on my face, then I swing my arm forward, and let my dagger slice through his right eye before moving away from his snapping jaws. The resulting foul blood trickles down my hand, soaking into my sleeve.
