The run to the battle field is just what I needed this morning.
I push myself harder and faster, finding strength from within. I hop from treetop to treetop, loving the feeling of the air from this height. Behind me, I hear Demitri let out a annoyed growl as I put more distance between us.
I can't help but laugh.
Pick up the pace! I tell him, and he growls back through our connection.
My laughter is cut short when a brown blur streaks through the trees below. When I make it closer to the field, I hop all the way to the ground and shoot a scowl at the wolf that greets me.
"Myles!" I yell. "How did you even manage to do that?"
We came from the opposite different direction of Blood Moon, so it's nearly impossible that he could outrun me here.
He simply gives me a wolfish grin, one I know all too well. It says, "I have my ways." Then, he trots off to the Blood Moon warriors waiting for us.
I roll my eyes, just in time for a pissed off Alpha wolf to launch himself at me. I dodge quickly, rolling to the side before I spring up again and get into a fighting stance. We circle each other, both waiting for the first attack. Finally, I make my move. I charge straight at Demitri's wolf, and he prepares himself for a head on collision. At the last second, I slide on the ground, missing his snout by inches, and go straight under his body. I leap up behind him and yank on his tail, then swing up onto his back when he's too busy turning around to notice. Sneakily, I inch further up towards his head, and unsheathe one of my swords. By the time he's realized what I've done, my dagger is at his neck, poised to pierce the soft skin of his throat.
"I win." I whisper into one of his large ears.
Then, I promptly roll off and put my weapon away. His wolf appraises me with wide eyes and I laugh before blowing him a cheeky kiss, then turn on my heel and walk up to Eli.
He smiles knowingly as I approach.
"Rule #13: a fake then strike will fool the enemy every time." He recites proudly.
"I learned from the best." I respond, giving my brother a grateful hug.
"You sure did, kid." He teases, squeezing me tight.
We pull away, and I watch as Demitri sulks over in human form.
"How did you do that?" He asks.
"I had a great teacher," I shrug, shooting a wink at Eli.
"Hell yeah she did!" He agrees with a wide smile, wrapping a muscled arm around me as he laughs.
"Well, I'm impressed." Demitri says with a twinkle of pride in those blue eyes, and I feel a blush rising.
Samuel strides over, and the males begin talking about today's training.
I begin to walk away, when something he says causes me to stop. I turn around at his next statement.
"Wait. It's happening tomorrow?" I ask, disbelief evident in my tone.
They all stare at me before Samuel answers.
"The humans have noticed an increase in the amount of wolves in the area, and our spies in the cities nearby confirm it. It's simply a prediction and there's no telling if it's true or not, but we need to be prepared just incase." He says in a solemn tone.
"I agree." Eli says, all joking from before long gone.
"As do I." Demitri states with a frown.
