My eyes snap open when the door squeaks.
"Oh, this is about to be good." Samuel murmurs from his bedside vigil. He must have snuck in while I was out.
I shoot him a cutting glare, but he smiles demurely.
"Hey." Demitri says shyly. He stands in the doorway with a timid smile.
"Samuel linked me but I told you I was coming back later." His smile quickly drops when he takes in my murderous expression.
"Ara, what's wrong? Did something happen?"
I ignore the shiver threatening to run down my spine when he says my name, instead focusing on my anger, trenching myself down for the battle.
"What's wrong?" I mock. "This is what's wrong!" I yell, pulling aside the thin hospital gown to display the newest addition to my skin.
He visibly pales, pupils blown wide in fear.
"I can-" He starts, but I don't let him continue.
"How could you mark me without my consent?!" I scream in frustration, dropping my hands to fists in my lap. I dig my nails into my palm, using the pain to fuel my anger.
He doesn't answer, instead turning to a very amused Samuel still planted at the end of my bed.
"You, out. Now." He demands.
I feel my blood boil at his tone.
"No, he can stay!" I argue, only to be pessimistic. "This is my room - I have final say here."
"Yeah, I can stay. I've been waiting all day for this." He shoots me a victorious smile.
"Get out!" Demitri booms.
"Don't yell at him!" I retort. The monitor next to me beeps louder and louder as my heart rate climbs. I can only guess that our raised voices are the only reason why a nurse hasn't bolted into the room.
"This is better than TV." Samuel comments, thoroughly entertained by the scene before him.
"I am your Alpha, and you will obey me." Demitri angrily reminds him. A muscle feathers at his jaw.
I don't even try to hide the way I roll my eyes.
"And she's my Luna." He counters calmly, nodding towards me.
"Some alpha you are! Marking girls without their consent!" I seethe with another glare his direction.
Demitri just grinds his teeth together, eyes shut in an attempt to control his anger.
"Samuel seriously, out!" He barks again.
The Beta only shrugs, before he gets up and heads for the door.
"Damn. Keep yelling though, I'll be listening right outside." He teases, shooting me a wink.
I don't know what's gotten into Samuel lately, but I prefer it over his usual brooding.
Once he's gone, Demitri looks calmer. He moves towards the chair next to my bed - his chair.
"No, you can't sit there." I protest. "You should stand, preferably over there." I point to the farthest wall.
He ignores me, getting comfortable far too close for my liking.
"Listen, I know you're mad-"
"Mad?!" I question in bewilderment. "Mad is tame compared to what I'm feeling right now."
He shoots me an exasperated look before continuing.
"Let me speak. I know you're...not happy with what I've done. But that mark saved your life. And I wasn't going to risk your death."
