I wake up to a bright white light.
Am I dead? Is this heaven? If so, could someone dim that please?
As my eyes adjust, I hear a faint beeping. Once I feel like I'm not being blinded by a thousand suns, I see the lines in the white tiles above me, and my heart sinks - I'm in the hospital.
How did I get here?
"You're awake."
I sit up to see Samuel staring at me from the foot of my bed. He looks moodier than normal, his dark eyes are razor sharp.
Well that's.......unnerving.
Instead of answering, I take in my surroundings. The entire room is white. White chairs, white floor, same sterile smell as any other hospital. Samuel takes up one of the two chairs in the room. His dark clothing is the only source of color in the room, standing out against the monotone environment.
Looking to my left, I see a heart monitor, alerting us both that I am in fact, still breathing.
"What happened?" I question croakily, watching the movement of the little lines.
"You passed out." He says nonchalantly.
My face scrunches up in confusion.
"I passed out." I echo.
"Yes." He confirms, leaning forward. The chair, hilariously small beneath him, creaks with the movement.
I let out a small grunt as I shift in the bed, sitting up fully. My muscles feel stiff and I'm still wearing the training suit I had on earlier. Speaking of which, how long have I been here?
Seeming to read my mind, Samuel speaks again.
"You were out for two days. The doctor gave you a heavy sedative." He catches me up. His voice sounds off, not quite as calm as before.
"Two days?" I cry incredulously.
"Two days." He repeats.
Well, isn't he just Tommy Talkative today?
"You'll be a bit disoriented for the next few hours, and you can't train or engage in strenuous activity for the next 24 hours, but after that you should be fine." He continues, leaning back once more.
I've never been faint hearted before, so I don't understand what happened. I felt fine.
If Samuel thinks any less of me now, he doesn't show it. Then again, what emotions does he show?
Woah woah woah, back it up.
"No training?!" I ask in disbelief. I feel my eyes grow wide as the reality sinks in.
"None. At least not for 24 hours. It's 8 am now, you should be in the clear for tomorrow morning."
I huff in frustration.
Training is all I have. I would certainly have to make up for it in the coming days.
"Well, what am I supposed to do then?" I ask.
He thinks for a moment, "Whatever you want to do."
"I want to train."
"Other than that." I can tell I'm pushing his buttons by the way his eyes harden. "Don't look so glum. I have to do whatever you do, so I feel just as frustrated as you." He reveals.
"Let me guess, Alpha's orders." I mock with an eye roll.
"Yes." He grits out, seemingly just as unhappy as I am.
