ELENA SLOWLY OPENED her eyes and let out a big yawn.
Despite the fact about the distraction yesterday, she was happy to get that long sleep which she had missed after she recently got a job.
It was a Sunday, not a preferable day, since Elena hated Sundays.
The constant silence in her home. The phone calls, although, she had already received one about today's plans.
"Hello?" Elena answered drearily.
"Hey!" The girl on the other end shouted. It was her friend, Cindy. "Listen, I know it's early-"
"It's 6am, please!" Elena shouted.
"-Yeah... me and Ryan, we were-" Elena choked in disgust.
"Please don't. I already had a full on blown hour of hearing that by my next door neighbour." She gladly told Cindy, who giggled on the other end.
"Oh, was it you with your neighbour?"
"My god. Really Cindy?" Elena coughs again.
"Aha, I'm just kidding with ya." Cindy says, and giggles once more.
Just for fun- since that was Cindy's style.
"Right Cindy." Elena sat up in her bed, still tired.
"Anyway, I better get right to the point. Would you like to meet later, for a drink?" Elena closed her eyes for a moment and instead, thought about how much much sleep she could get.
Maybe an extra 6 hours if she had nowhere to go.
But obviously that wasn't possible.
"Um... o-okay." She responds and Cindy smiled on the other side.
"I can't wait! It's been a while since we've seen each other. Well, ever since you got that new job." Cindy shoved a grape into her mouth. "How is it detective?"
"Cindy... I'm not a detective. I'm a forensic psychologist, there is a big difference."
"Yeah, I know." Cindy swallows. "But, it is okay, are you finding it interesting?" Elena slightly smiled.
"Yeah, I mean, they call me sometimes. But I haven't had anything big come up yet. I've interviewed some of the offenders, but I actually have been invited to do some training for offender profiling." Cindy's jaw dropped.
"Wow." It sounded amazing to her. "I'm glad you got this job Elena, and I know you'll do well."
"Thanks Cindy."
"Well, I'll let you go back to sleep. Night or morning, whatever." Elena dropped her eyes onto her phone and slithered back under the sheets.
You see, that was around three hours ago.
Elena was now in her pyjamas, skipping to Feel So Close by Calvin Harris.
And that was Elena's style.
On the other hand, next door was Tom's new style of life.
"Thank for... you know, a night to remember." Claire whispered as she slipped on her heels.
"Right, yeah. Thanks." Tom answers back and stretches his arms out.
"I'll, see you." Opening the door, Tom allowed Claire to step out.
"Bye." Tom waved as Claire threw her coat onto her shoulders.
He sighed and looked to his right. Remembering last night, Tom rushed to Elena's door, picking up a newspaper on the way.
Before he knocked, Tom smiled. He could hear, muffled, an upbeat song. From there, he knocked.
Elena swung the door open and Tom stared at her- wrapped in a dressing gown and her hair in a bun.
"Hi." Tom said to Elena, fiddling with a newspaper.
"Hello, sorry, can I help you?" His mouth grew wide and he stretched out his hand.
"I'm Tom, your new neighbour." Elena smiled and shook it.
"Oh right. The, guy who had a very loud night right?" And on that note, Tom couldn't help but to feel a natural human emotion.
Embarrassment- and that is when his cheeks burned red. "Oh, I'm dealing with someone who is shy!" Elena simpered and bowed her head.
"Oh god." Tom patted his cheeks. "Sorry."
"It's... fine. Tom." Elena smiled again, which caused to, also.
"Well, Emily-"
"-Elena."
"Elena..." Tom smirked. "I apologise for last night. I... didn't know it would happen."
"It's cool."
"I didn't know that we would get so-"
"Okay, that's enough!" Elena breathed out and swallowed.
"For intruding you last night, how about I treat you for some dinner?"
"D-dinner?" Elena raised her eyebrows.
"I-"
"I'm sorry, I, I'm meeting a friend later. For drinks..." Elena bites her lip and makes a request. "You can join us, if you'd like." Tom nodded and licked his lips.
"Sure, thanks." Elena touched her bun and took a step back.
"Well, nice meeting you Tom, I'll... see you later." Closing the door, Elena waved goodbye.
Tom fiddled with his fingers.
This was the first time he had gone out with a neighbour.
Leading a normal life...
What would the night turn out to be?
