TOM'S MOUTH DROOPED and he was immediately concerned.
"M-murder?" Tom asked, hoping he had heard wrong. He had thought the people who had tried to kill Christopher were off his back.
Elena looked at Tom and without knowing for a moment, grabbed his hand tightly. Tom frowned and caressed her thumb with his own.
"Y-yeah. Sam here just told us there was another one." He blinked continuously at Elena, and glanced at Sam.
"A-another what?" Tom stuttered.
Sam lifted an eyebrow and slowly made his way to his own desk.
"Another murder. Have you not listened to Elena?" Tom glared at Sam and Elena squeezed Tom's hand, as took off his coat and place it on his chair.
The ex-agent turned to Elena and grabbed her other hand, swinging them around.
"Hey..." Tom dragged out and Elena dropped her head. "You seem... quiet..."
"No..."
"Yes..." He whispered and took a small step forward. "What's wrong?" Elena sighed and smiled ever so slightly.
"N-nothing."
"You sure?" Elena paused, but nodded eventually.
"... Yeah."
"Well, I bet I can turn that frown upside down!" Tom whispered with excitement and lightly tickled Elena, who giggled quietly.
"Tom! Shh!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, am I being too loud?" Tom pressed his lips against Elena's and she looked around, quickly pushing Tom away.
"Hey... don't... I don't want people to know about us yet." Stepping away, Tom nodded.
"Okay..." Tom glances at Sam and when he looked back Elena wasn't there- instead she made her way to her colleague.
And after, Tom did some digging at Elena's house- he found out that the murder was just different from the others. So he felt a little better.
Tom then heard the click of the front door opening and he quietly closed the laptop, rushing behind the kitchen door.
"Oh god..." Elena breathed out and removed her coat, making her way into her living room and placing it and her bag onto the sofa and she jumped onto it, letting out a sigh of relief.
Tom slid his way behind the sofa and pressed his hands onto Elena's shoulders, massaging them. "Oh..." Elena smiled. "I... didn't know... you... were here..." She tilted her head back and Tom leaned down, pressing his lips onto Elena's.
Elena grabbed Tom's face and they kissed passionately for a moment- then they separated, Tom sitting himself next to Elena.
"No we're all in love..." Tom faced her. "What's wrong Elena?"
"Nothing, I said earlier."
"I know you're a detective but I know when people lie..." He strokes her hair. "Now, Elena Williams, what is tugging your gun?" Elena sighs.
"I... I can't really say..."
"Sometimes a psychologist needs someone to talk to." He pecks her cheek.
"It's work... this morning... the details of the murder, it... scared me..." She closed one eye. "Is that wrong?" Tom moved closer to Elena.
"No, no. I get scared sometimes, just like the other day with Chris." He rubbed her back lightly.
"Really?"
"Yeah, but... I always know that I'll be fine. Don't worry." Tom smiled and realised how much he has changed.
"Thank you." Elena leaned onto Tom's chest and he sank in his seat. "I reckon I should cook dinner for us both." Tom rested his arms behind his head.
"Don't burn the onions again." He whispered and Elena chuckled, steadily walking into the kitchen.
And Tom?
Well, he closed his eyes and breathed in deeply.
Until the phone rang.
"Would you get that!" Elena shouted and Tom leaped to his feet, picking up the phone.
"Hello, Williams' residence." A low growl was heard from the other side and Tom frowned.
"You made the wrong choice Agent." He walked away from the living room.
"Who is this?" Tom asked.
"You don't need to know. But, I'll tell you a small secret. Killing my men was wrong and so, I'll be after you." Tom looks at Elena's reflection. "And how would you feel if I came after her?"
"You stay away from her!" He said, his hand curling into a fist.
"You can't stop me. Goodbye Agent Hiddleston. Just remember to watch you're back." The man on the other side put the phone down and Tom sighed.
He slammed the phone onto the table and clenched his jaw.
For the second time since he had left his organisation- Tom felt pure rage.
No one would ever hurt the people he loved, and he would make sure of that.
