I tossed and turned all night. I can't believe Cody bit me! His words, "You're submissive to me" repeated in my head. I couldn't sleep. The next morning I woke up super late, I overslept and missed the bus. I jumped out of bed and threw on jeans and a sweater. Nothing vampy today. Dad drove me to school, and I raced to first period. "Nice to have you join us, Autumn." Monsieur Bordeaux said. I slowly made my way to my desk, I had no makeup on and had puffy, baggy eyes. "You okay?" Cody whispered. I ignored him, I was so frustrated I didn't know what I got myself into.
At lunch Austyn and Char sat down at my table. Char slid a CapriSun over at me and Austyn, her grilled cheese sandwich. "Honey, are you okay?" Char asked. "I'm just sick. Have you guys seen Cody?" I asked. "In the lunch line." Austyn said. Cody strolled over and looked at me, and sat down. "Hey, baby." he said kissing my cheek. "Hi." I said, softly. "So Autumn, we have soccer practice today." Char said. I wolfed down Austyn's sandwich, I hadn't realized I was so hungry. I nodded. "So, Cody what do your parents do for a living?" Austyn asked, eyeing him. He finished swallowing his BLT, and said, "Well, my father died in a tragic accident when I was seven. My mother does work from the house. She's a novelist." "I'm sorry for your loss, how did he die?" she asked. "Um... co-construction accident." he said stammering. There was a long pause. "What does your mom right about?" I asked. "Crime." he answered quickly. I exchanged glances with my friends. "When can I come over?" I asked. He choked. "Pardon me?" "When can I come over? You've always been to my house. I haven't been to yours." "Well um... today is fine I suppose." he said nervously ."Perfect," I'll meet you at your locker, I said kissing his cheek.
